Subject: real age or usat age?
When I am asked to provide my age my first instinct is to give my usat race age, which is now 30, even though my actual birthday is June 27th. I am sure that I am not the only one that does this, but I am curious to see how many of us think like this.Anyone else?

Me too, makes me always take a step back and have to think.

I turned 40 in November ago and when my dad and sister were giving me a hard time about being over the hill, excited, my wife simply said,   "well he's been racing as a 40 year old all year so the birthday is just meaningless now - plus he's now racing masters!"

Generally if they are asking for your age they are asking for USAT age, otherwise they word it asking for "birth date" and I respond with my birth date.

That's only if the OP is talking about racing at all. I took it as an age block on something completely unrelated to tris and chuckled.

As a Jan 1 baby I don't have to worry about that. But it has occurred to me that if I was just a few hours older I could have moved out of the pesky 40-44 AG this year.

See now you're thinking like a triathlete.  Pretty soon you'll be eating breakfast in the shower.

Kind of jarring to realize next year I "age up" and get to be on the young side of 50-55......

I originally thought of this when I was filling out non tri related paperwork and it asked me for my age. I began to enter 30 (my race age) the lady behind the counter gave me a strange look as I made the correction.

This has happened to me several times.  I fill out my race age much more often than my actual age, so I have to correct it.  They look at me like I'm already having senior moments.  :-)

It get as confusing as writing the proper year a few days after New Year.

Even worse is if you do more than just tris... as someone who does about 6 pure running events a year and tris I'm constantly having to think.... "ok so how old am I for this?"

My friend and I sang happy Birthday to each other at New Year's midnight this year. We each turn 55 in September. Happy new AG. I just wish some of my regular running races would let me age up this year too, we do have to remember not to make a mistake about it when it does matter. I went to a 60th BD party last Dec and it really was anticlimactic--in my mind he had been 60 for 11 months already.

To make matters really confusing, the cross country ski rules are opposite. My friends 60th birthday was on the same day as the Craftsbury marathon and he had to race as 59 because it's your age at the start of the season.

Heck, I just go ahead and age-up all the way to the top of my age group. I am currently 45, but tell folks I am 49. I like the "you look great for your age!" comments. I know, i know, lame. But I need everything I can get.

get more confusing when you enter a running race because you do not age up for races that are not USAT races. One weekend you race as a 30yr old but then the next weekend you are 29.
