Subject: First time bike build - steel bike porn!

My first time building a bike from a frame. Started with 1995 Bianchi Campione D'Italia frame (lugged steel), added a SRAM 900 crank, old stem and Zipp handlebars from my parts bin, SRAM force RD, SRAM rival FD and brakes, SRAM Red left/front shifter and SRAM Force right/rear shifter. Wheel aren't bike specific, I just swap them between my bikes at the moment, PT Pro+ HED Bastogne rear and Mavic Ksyrium Elite front. Saddle is a Toupe (it's only slightly tipped up, the ground level is making it seem more I think) from my other bike that I had replaced with a Romin.

Did 35 miles on her yesterday, rides better than I remember my steel LeMond riding.  STEEL IS REAL!  Ride quality was just leaps and bounds above my Cervelo S2 (but that's to be expected from the purpose of that bike).  So now I have my fun bike and my race bike!

I had someone call her a "Frankenbike".  Don't like the metaphor, if anything I should be a Franken-mechanic.  But it did give me a great idea for a name - Blue Daemon (daemon is one of the things Dr. Frankenstein's monster is called in the book).

That seat looks like it's pointed way up.

Sweet build!  x2 on the seat, though.

I love steel.

Yep, I just checked it, it's not an artifact of the pic. Must have slipped while riding or during one of my mid ridge adjustments. Didn't notice it though. Oh well, it's more level now, fwiw.

Thanks all!I also realized that the saddle set like that isn't a mistake - its where I find it comfortable. As someone who always had issues with numbness, this surprises me a bit. It's only one notch above level, but at the level setting I feel like I'm sliding forward. Maybe I'm used to the Romin and the curved design since I have that on my other bike.

Very cool-looking bike.

Was/is  the fork thread-less or are you using one of the adapters? (Sorry, not sure of the correct terminology for the 'old' vs 'new' forks)

The reason I ask -  I do not see any spacers and wonder if the stem can be lowered.  I am thinking of getting one of the adapters for an old Cannondale tri frame I have, but wonder if I will be able to get the stem lowered as low as I might want/need.....

I was able to pick up an old Bianchi (it says 'Super' on it...????) from Craigslist a couple years ago. Shimano downtube 600 components. It looks to have chrome forks under the brown paint, as evidenced by a couple of small scratches. It is in very good condition.  Anyone have an idea of what it may be worth??

I'd have to say that's a threaded fork (the nut above the top set of bearings gives it away), with a threadless adapter.

Yep, threaded to thread less adaptor. Spacers aren't necessary with the set up, so you don't see them but I could lower it a little. Under the stem you see the adaptor taper and I could slide it down into the steerer to that point (so the stem is a mm or so above the nut of the headset). With a negative 17 stem (so its flat) and thats pretty low. You can probably find more angled thread less stems or a quill stem with the right size clamp for your bars and some drop if you needed it lower. No idea on value. I'll take it off your hands for $50 though they make a nice riding bike them Italians they do.
