Subject: wetsuits in the pool?
I want to try my new wetsuit before my sprint on Saturday, and won't have an opportunity to swim in open water before then...are they even allowed in the pool? Is this a bad idea?

I have worn mine in the pool just to get used to it before events when I couldn't get to open water. Just be very careful about not overheating. The biggest problem is wetsuites are designed to keep you warm...pool water already warm...result...overheating.

I'd say they'd be allowed, but just let the lifeguard know what you're doing before ye go charging in there wrapped in the neoprene safety blanket. We appreciate the heads up.

And consider wearing it for only about half of your workout...otherwise you may end up steamed, dehydrated and miserable. Most indoor pools are kept at about 80-81 degree range, translation: Not wetsuit legal. Keep a decent sized bottle of water nearby, and hydrate often.

OH! And DONT PEE IN YOUR WETSUIT!!

This is the only time I'll give that advice. In the lake, let 'er rip. In my pool, keep a plug in it.

Definately try the wetsuit in the pool........you will be amazed at how you zip down that lane. You may get a few looks....kind of fun Definately drink while you are swimming. Get a good feel for it - don't overheat. The practice will give you that extra confidence on race day morning. When you get out practice removing the suit as if it were race day. Make sure you rinse your suit out afterwards.

Good luck at your tri on Saturday.

My pool is fine with it. Just remember a few things:

- Chlorine = bad for the neoprene/rubber
- Have a full water bottle handy as you will sweat your azz off wearing it
- Wash off the suit when you go to the locker room afterwards
- You WILL be faster and float on the water much easier, so concentrate on your form more than ever and be smooth
- If you bought your suit from Renee, you will be the fastest thing in the pool

At least those are my experiences when I wore mine a month or so ago to the pool to try it out.

wore mine for a set on tuesday. did 750m in 13.48 - took a minute off my last timed 750, but i have to admit i hope some of that is down to me getting faster anyhow. but it made no difference to my 200 time

ask first, drink lots (i cramped up by the end) and rinse well after. yeh and be prepared for the looks :P
