What's it going to be kids, Spring Fling, Mesilla Valley, Coyote Carrera, or Jay  Benson?  I know that SOME of the world travelers (RockTractor and others) are headed to the tropics for their first race, lucky muthas.

My first tri this year is Jay Benson (assuming I get a spot) because I am in Vegas for a running race the same weekend as Spring Fling and Coyote Carrera. Wishing a successful season to you all.

I'm registered for Coyote but i'm hoping I'm ready.  I had to take off quite a bit of time due to getting sick.  I'm started to train today.  If I feel good today and tomorrow I might try to get a spot for Jay Benson.  Good luck everyone!  Have a safe and fun season!

Likely Jay Benson for me. I'd do the Spring Fling again but I hated the time trial swim start, so I doubt it.

Steve...Unfortunately it seems like there's always issues with the 25 yard pools. I watched several folks walk during the swim at Coyote last year due to complete bottleneck. Mark from Trisports Coaching had everyone swim two circuits of 200 yards during the Nutcracker and that seemed to work better than the other two approaches- you could actually use both sides of the lane. How about this for 25 yard pools; 200 TT start using both sides of the lane, bike, run 200 swim to finish? I'm sure there would be problems with that approach as well but may be worth a shot.

I'm hoping to kick off the year at the Coyote but may have to rethink if there were swim issues previously.  I usually do the Rio Rancho races because they are close to home but prefer to race on Saturdays.  I would like to do the Jay Benson.  I never have before.  It seems that registration comes and goes without me hearing a word about it.

Trinity,

If you don't get to Sports Systems this Wednesday between 6:30 pm and 8:30 pm, you will pretty much be SOL on getting a spot this year.

Couldn't justify two cross border raids in two months- We're booked May 31-June 6 for a friends 40th B-day- same beach.  SO my first race will be Mesilla Valley- love that course, pool, and promotors- no affiliation, just appreciate a well run race.

I just hate the start of it and waiting about 20 minutes on the deck twiddling your thumbs. The swim went fine for me. I shortchanged myself on my time and ended up doing all the passing and never got passed.

I'm just giving you a hard time...

Are you going to race Mesilla solo this year or are you teaming up?

Thanks for the info RockTractor.  Looks like I'll miss out again this year as Wednesday nights are booked for me.  Oh well maybe next year.  I hope everyone has a safe and exciting season and hope to see y'all at a race or two.

Trinity...I have heard that they will have Charity slots available for ~$100.

Jay...I will be doing it solo. Kerry and Connor are teaming it. I'll also be doing it on my road bike- I just need more time to get used to the B2's more aggressive position. As it stands right now, my neck can't take more than 1-2 miles in aero.

Mark, you should mount a mirror on your forks so you can look down and see in front of you

Might negate the aero advantage though

Steve....I'll get used to it. It was just like this last year when I first got on my QR set up to race. I got used to it after a while. BUT i used the road bike all winter and it's much more relaxed so I guess i just have to get used to holding up this giant cranium all over again

Steve....Yes I sold my QR Seduza at the end of the season and I picked up a Felt B2 and had it set up to the same dimensions as my QR.

I used the road bike with clip ons for the winter but even removing all the spacers, I could not get it as low as the QR was so my neck has to go through all that again.

ah, I guess I didn't notice what bike you were on in the garage. I need to pay better attention

And no use asking if your QR is for sale since it's gone

Rio Rancho - where you can ride year round!
Subject: RE: First race of the Year....?

i'm in for Spring Fling - it's been over a year since I've raced. Last year was just busy with life and didn't fit well with tri. so, April 22 is on! I'm excited for it to get here as well. I'm hoping to get a few other races in. If I can get training going in the summer, I'd like to do Elephant Man but the Damnit Man should be one I will do.

good luck to you all this year!

Tri Taos Super Sprint for me.  First year race and short (2mi/9mi/400yds)  and early with an indoor transistion  4/14.

Then trying to decide if I do the oly or sprint Billy the Kid.  It will be my first oly, first open water swim tri.  I think it's a small race so may be a good one to work the bugs out.
