Subject: Using Facebook to shout out for training/race partners?

Hopefully this isn't a violation of BT Forum rules...but I was thinking that the easiest way to shout out for workout or race partners might be if we all "liked" a common facebook page and used it to shout out where and when we plan to train.

Amongst my local group of friends who work out we made a private group in FB so we could coordinate races and what not.  I made it private so other people don't have to see or hear about our tri stuff.  Most folks who don't do it get tired of hearing about it.

It has worked well for our group so far.

We started using meetup.com...check out our Mid Michigan Running Group.

213 current members.  We post training runs and events, you know ahead of time who plans to do what.  It has been great for us.  There are a couple groups already established in the Detroit area.  Of course you can always join us too.

I like meetup (I started a Rock climbing meetup group), but was hoping to keep it simpler...a place where anyone can easily shout out where they'll be and see where other will be without having to check other pages.  Facebook is not quite universal but a lot of members of my climbing meetup don't check the meetup site too often, but do see new items in their facebook newsfeed.

I figured by creating a page rather than a private group, then people who aren't FB friends can interact on the page's wall.  Kind of like how some people shout out here, but with potentially more views.  I might only check this site once per day and sometimes less, but facebook is checked several times per day.

I'd love to join your meetup if it weren't two hours away!

Z2A, I liked the page this morning. I think it's a great idea. No harm in reaching out to as many people as possible.

I realized yesterday I am out of town that day. You can imagine my disappointment!!! I've been looking forward to that for weeks.

Hoping to make that as well..will have to see what is on the training schedule.  It'd be a terrible shame to hang out and babysit the food all day...  {#emotions_dlg.wink}
