While I am riding my feet hurt on the balls of my feet and from the balls of my feet through the big toe they fall asleep.  Does anyone  else ever have thsi and it is normal, or am I doing something wrong.

I use to have the same problem, tried 4 different pair of shoes and left front of foot kept falling asleep. Adjusted position on bike, adjusted cleat alignment, finally just loosened left side just a bit and now I have no more pain. I guess my left foot is slightly larger?

I agree with the bike fit comment. I had this problem in my right foot for a bit. Once I got correctly fit it cleared up really quick.

Probably bike fit as has been stated will help, but it would be my suggestion that more than anything it is your cleat/foot position.

Suggestions:

Ditto on bike fit

Don't "mash" your feet down (I do this).  Focus on lifting your legs up to get rotation and not hammering down with your feet.   I have pain in the ball of my left foot and it's due to this (bad form on my part).

Your shoes may be too tight if your toes are falling asleep.  If I close the velcro strap too tight on my shoes, my feet start to tingle after a while.  If I loosen them up, feet are fine.

Hope this helps!

I used to have similar problems, but as I cycled more it went away. I won't rule out "bike fit" being an excellent thing to do, but consider how long you've been cycling as well -- I know I had to go through a "toughening up" phase.

By the way, congrats on your weight loss!

I have had similar problems this year which is my first with clip ons. Apart from falling asleep I also started to get some pain that felt like internal bruising. Then I read somewhere that this could be the onset of ??metatarsalitis?? or something like that and one of the things as prevention is to make sure you have enough toe room in your bike shoes.
I now keep the straps at the front of my shoes very loose, wear thinner socks and I remember to wiggle my toes about every so often and it is much improved
