I got a 910xt a couple of weeks ago and it is my first time using HR monitor.  Worked like a charm the first couple of times and then it started acting up by having my HR have these huge spikes during a workout.  I read the manual and it stated to clean it.  So I started cleaning it after every workout and it was back to working correctly.  Although today I went out for a run and the first 9-10 min of the run it acted crazy again but after that it settled down and started working correctly.  Any suggestions?  Do I need to put it on and wear it for 10-15min or so before I start working out?

The older Premium strap was always an issue for me. The newer style seems to spike within the first couple of minutes of a workout and the has random spikes, or drops. I switched to a polar wearlink strap, and snapped the Garmin HR monitor to that strap and have had zero issues.

I have to replace my hrm every 3-5 months because of this issue (not the watch, just the strap/monitor). Been down the road with tech support. It's just the straps wear out. Yours might be something you're wearing increasing static charges. That tends to mess with it some. Google search and trouble shoot.

I had a problem with mine where it would spike towards the end of a workout, static causes spiking at the beginning before you start to sweat.  I switched to a Polar strap and it's fine now.

Running the strap under the faucet and wetting the skin contact areas of the strap can eliminate the erratic readings at the beginning of the workout.

Looks like I may be switching to a polar strap.

The wetting the strap before the workout did the trick.

2x to wetting the strap.  I've had my premium strap go through the washer 2-3 times this year and it's still going strong.

X3 on wetting the strap. Just licking the sensors does it YMMV.
