Subject: Shoe drops and/or sensitive feet

I have very sensitive feet and will be doing my first Tri (Sprint) on July 29 at the age of 64.  What do most athletes do for this situation?

On the map for the Tri I see a "shoe drop" area right out of the water.  Is this where one would drop a light shoe or cycling shoes?  Or is there something light that can be used while swimming to give some protection to your feet.

I can't walk outside in just stocking feet as it is quite painful so don't suggest I "toughen" up my feet. Tongue out

I would suggest water shoes.   The kind that people sometimes wear to water parks.   You should be able to find them at cheap box stores such as walmart.   Some times I see them at dollar stores.   They are seasonal items.

I've never heard of a shoe drop-off.  I'd guess it's a place to toss old flip flops you might be wearing before the swim start.

I'd suggest spending 1 minute a day walking outside barefoot.  The bottom of your feet will toughen up just fine!

i cant walk outside barefoot at all.  however in a tri with the adrenal and the fast pace, i dont have to time think about it and it is not a problem.

Just as a note: The "Shoe Drop" area is shown on the swim map and is at the end of the swim.

This is the Race the River Triathlon in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho July 29, 2012

When I had bad plantar fasciitis, I stashed my trusty ortha heel flips at the edge of the sand near a trash can just off the swim exit but far enough off to the side to be out of the way. I'm not sure about the rule books in this regard, but I can't imagine any big issue there.
