Subject: Olympic Race before half iron

I Need advise. I'm racing a half iron July 14 and I just raced an Olympic (time 2:38:58)  last weekend and ran a half marathon in May ( time 1:37:08).  I was thinking of getting in 1 more race before the half. I could do an Olympic June 17. Would this be a mistake? Should I look to do a sprint instead that weekend or not race another before my half? My training is going very good. I can swim, Bike, and run the half distance without a problem. I need to work on my pacing and figured what better way than to race. Thanks.

A month should be plenty of time between the two.  Have done just that in the past.  Me, I would do the Oly on 6/14 at an easy pace, treat it as a long brick.  Go for it.

I'm planning on doing an Oly 3 weeks before my HIM. Primarily for the swim and transition practice, not so much for time. The Oly bike course is hilly, the HIM course is flat. I've done the Oly course twice before as a duathlon, so it helps for planning my efforts.

I would think a month is more than ample time given your conditioning, but only you know how much time you need to recover.

First off Cannedham - love your username!

I think doing an OLY 3 weeks before would be a great idea.  Not only would you get in a challenging workout prior to beginning your taper the following week but you'd also have a dry run in terms of nutrition and transition.  I think that if you were serious about your taper in the 2 weeks before your HIM - you should be all set.  Good luck and congrats on some seriously good times!
