Subject: NYC Marathon Guaranteed entry question

Just in case anyone here might know the answer, I have a question on qualifying times.

My wife turns 40 in December, so for the 2013 race she'll be in the 40-44 age group.  Does she have to wait until after her birthday to run a qualifying time for that age group, or could she use a time she recently ran that qualifies even though technically she was 39 when she ran it?

FYI, I called the offices and spoke with someone who said that your qualifying time depends on your age on the day you run your qualifying race, not the age you'll be for the actual marathon.  So for example, my wife turns 40 beginning of December, so she can either run a 1:30 HM this summer or fall, or run a 1:37 in the second half of December or before the cutoff in January.
