Subject: To paint or not to paint.....?
So I'm getting to the point that I'm wanting to be somewhat color coordinated while racing. I just ordered a new tri-suit and I'm considering painting my all white helmet with some accent colors to fit a bit more with my red, black and white colors. I've been reading online and there are mixed reviews on weather it should be done or not. There are the "don't do it it'll eat the styrofoam" and there are the other's that say " "just tape it off real good and have at it". What do you all think? BTW I'm not in the position to go out and replace a perfectly good helmet, so I'm trying to make what I have work.

I have never heard of it being enforced, but according to the rules helmet cannot be modified in any way, shape, or form from how it is originally sold and approved for safety

don't take a risk, leave it as is.  heck i have a black/white/green TT bike and am still using my black/red helmet/shoes/race tires from my road bike with it.

it looks like christmas when i roll down the course.

If you don't want the permanent change that you get with paint just get some vinyl and cut out the designs you want. Stick them on and deide if you like it. If it looks good leave it, if not rip it off and try again. You also have the option of hanging design or color if you change tri suits or bikes. You can warm he inyl with a hair dryer to stretch it around ridges.

plasti-dip works like paint and is removable too. comes in a spray can, and is peel able if you ever decide you don't want it or a RD tells you that there is a problem with the helmet you plan on using.

available at home depot/lowes every where.

Good thoughts all around and I'm going to look into the vinyl and plastic-dip ideas. Honestly if it looks like it'll cause structural issues or cause the Styrofoam to fail I'm not up for it, just not worth wrecking the helmet!! I'd rather leave it be if that was the case!! At least I don't look like Christmas threw up on me!!! Wink
