Subject: RE: Garmin 910XT - Just used for the 1st time ayabrea - 2012-08-06 8:47 PM It just seems such a shame for a watch with so much potential to be absolutely useless at determining instant run pace when Garmin got it to work on the 405. Makes for some crazy max/min pace marks. I wonder why that is. :/ I gotta agree with you. Whatever secret sauce the Garmin had in previous iterations, it's gone in the 910xt. I've run almost 1000 miles now with my 910xt, and the instant pace is TERRIBLE. Unless it's a wide-open clear blue sky, it's horrendously off. The strangest thing is that it'll be off for the entire time, yet on the download, the data will be correct, which is very annoying. I ran the Oly leg of a race a few months ago, and it read the entire first 3 miles at 10-11min/mile when I knew I was about 7min/mile. Yes, there was some tree canopy cover, but that's way too far off. I checked my watch religiously to await the 'correction' but it never really came. Yet on the download, my pace was fixed - 6:55/mile. WTF. I wouldn't feel as bad about it except that my good ol 305 (had two of them, actually) was fantastic at instant pace. Easily 4-5x better than the 910xt, which makes me think it's an algorithm issue vs a inferior GPS antenna. My 305 could mosty give accurate run speed even in dense tree cover, whereas the 910 goes haywire for me. |
