Subject: Iron Run Nutrition Plan - What's yours?

I use infinit on the bike, and just bought a batch for the run (no protein).  I know they have lots of stuff on the course, but their drink is Heed, which I hate.  I'm curious what everyone does for the run.  Do you carry a bottle of something, gels?  Use what's on course? Pack stuff in special needs?  I'm thinking logistics, and it's getting complicated.

Doing IM Mont Tremblant on Sunday.  I plan to live off the run course which really makes life easy.  A Honey Stinger chew every half hour with some perform and water...Probably around 300 calories per hour...You sure all they are offering is heed?  I don't like that stuff either..I would probably use a hydration belt with refills in my special needs bag.  Good luck

Live off course.  Even Heed when forced to do so (I agree that it tastes like @$$).  Maybe carry a gel or two of my own that is a flavor I know I like.  Acts like a 'treat' for me if I get that Banana-flavored Powergel along the way.

For the run at the IM U.S. Championships last weekend, I lived off the course. Ice & Water at every station, oranges every 1.5, pretzels every 2-3, chomps once and cookies in the last 4 miles. I didn't risk taking Perform for the same reason you won't take Heed. The only adjustment I would have made would have been to take endurolytes, which I forgot in T-2.

Some racers carried candy store quantities of gels & chews on their race belts. They weren't the fast ones.

700 calories over probably around 5 hours (was hoping for 4.5, but I think I am being more realistic to say 5 given the injuries I have been battling).

Yep...  Live off the course.

I take in what ever sounds good at the moment.  Sometimes it's broth, other times water.  The coke is nectar of the gods at that point.  Chips or cookies.

Honestly, all the egineered stuff is unappealing by then (sports drinks and gu).  Just some old fashioned soda and chips hit the spot for me.
