The Sheraton or Marriott will be basically at the finish line.  Will make race morning/post race much less stressful.  To potentially save a few $ there is a Hampton Inn and Suites about 1 mile away.  Not quite as convenient.

yeszir1 - 2012-10-21 9:32 PM Does anyone have a good recommendation for a half mary in the raleigh-area to do as prep for this course (spring 2013-ish)?

A 3 hr drive away but a great race the first weekend of May: http://www.newrivermarathon.com/

Worth the drive.

Well, not sure how I did this, but I managed to not pi$$ off my wife when I told her of my 2013 race plans.  We were on our way out to dinner Saturday night, with some friends, one or two of whom might be racing the 70.3.  I said, casually, "discussion might come up tonight about 2013 race plans.  Just FYI, I only have 2 races on the calendar; Charleston Marathon, and a half-iron-distance in June."  She said "Okay, sounds good."

Me: "_______________"  Speechless.

So I then said, "it will be an IronMan, and it will be fun!"

She laughed, as that's our joke from one of those meme videos "I'm Training for an Ironman"

The Triangle Open Water Swim Series (http://www.triangleopenwater.com) recently announced their 2013 schedule, luckily for us they are doing a race at Jordan Lake, starting at the same location and 3 weeks before IM Raleigh.
Doesn't look like the official website has been updated, but you can see the announcement on their Facebook page:

Should be a great tune-up swim just before the start of taper.

Thanks! I seen the run and bike video, not sure how. It sounds like the road condition may be a concern for some..The lake view looks nice and calm. He did reference two deer up the road from where he was filming. Watch out for wild life See y'all in June.

Nice video, right up to where he points at the finish line and says "you are an Ironman".  And here I thought I'd signed up for a 70.3!

Thanks for posting.

Yeah, I thought the same thing myself. It'll be more like, "You're an *Ironman."

Yep, we'll all get to hear about how he started training a week before the race. He just killed it with a few Sufferfest sessions, and then averages like 25mph on the bike.

fgump - 2012-09-04 1:43 PM For a good preview of the swim and part of the bike, come do the Finish Strong Half on 9/23.  Same swim venue, similar bike for the first dozen miles or so.  Be ready to go uphill for 3 miles right out of the water!

fgump, if you or any other locals ride the Raleigh course and map it, please post your file so we can get a look at the hills.

Haven't ridden it yet, plan to in a few weeks, but here's a sneak preview.  Looks like about 2500 feet of climbing.

http://www.beginnertriathlete.com/discussion/training/map.asp?routeid=180917

fgump, did you get out and ride the course yet?  Any feedback for those of us stuck at more northern locales (which for me means in my basement on a trainer.)

Does anyone know how I can sign up for the May swim?  I don't see it on the websites.
