Anyone else find steady state power zone riding pretty hard? I've been doing the Endurance Build 1 on Trainerroad, and am loving the steady state power range workouts, but they've been surprisingly hard! I do need to HTFU, as my HR zones are clearly still hi-aerobic zone during the SS intervals, but man, after an hour in that zone, it's hard!

They get "easier" the more you do them. I'm not sure what % of your threshold rate you were going at but today:

20 min spin warmup (keep a lid on HR. under 125)

45min @ 75-80% (130-135. Kept creeping to 140)

45min @ 85-90% (143-147. Easier to keep in check)

45min @ 90-95%, this basically was 157+ heartrate for me. I just wanted to get home as fast as possible since it was getting dark so I just cranked as hard as I could and cut it short down to about 30min instead of 45. either way this one was darn close to threshold.

I find them a little hard to dial in on the trainer for a few rides each season.  After a couple weeks I get the hang of it though.

Outside, it doesn't seem to be an issue.

yazmaster - 2012-12-01 11:27 PM  I've been doing the Endurance Build 1 on Trainerroad,

Where is the Endurance Build 1 plan? I don't see it. Am I missing some plans?

When I click on the Plans section I have these ones listed:

Intermediate Base- 1 and 2

Intermediate Build- 1 and 2

Advanced Build- 1 and 2

20 Minute Power Accelerator (E3 Solutions)

Novice Competitor- Low and High Volume

Experienced Competitor- Low and High Volume

Novice Century- Low and High Volume

Experienced Century- Low and High Volume

Super Time Crunched- A and B

OOps - I meant Int Build Plan 1, which is nearly all SS work.

I agree - weirdly, outside not as much of an issue. Might be a cooling thing, but am not sure. I average my SS HR outdoors for 3 hours and it's not super hard, whereas I felt like it was significantly harder indoors.

Thanks. Thought I was missing something. I have one more ride in left in the Intermediate Base 1 and will move on to the Base 2. But good to know that there is a big challenge awaiting me up the road when I get to the builds.
