What is the trick to removing all that salt that builds up from sweat on all of my zippers? I have problems with them on my gloves, spi belt and backpack. I've had them get corroded to the point that I couldn't use them any longer. I've tried running them through the washer and it still won't get rid of all of it.

Have you tried pre-soaking the items and then brushing the salt with a bristle brush before throwing in the washing machine?  I honestly haven't ever had this problem; any time there is visible salt buildup it has washed away easily.

If they corrode to the point you can't use them, perhaps what you are seeing IS corrosion?

Aluminum oxidizes differently than iron does.  It doesn't "rust", it gets a white granular buildup that could easily resemble salt.  Of course, if the zippers aren't aluminum, then that's probably not the case.

+1 to the soak and scrub suggestion, but I've also never had a problem with it.

Thanks for the input, I will try chapstick and WD-40 and see if that takes care of them.

you need to dissolve the salts in the zipper, try using vinegar.
