I was talking with friends the other day regarding the IronGirl race in Columbia in August and found out that there are over 1700 racers signed up for the race.

I decided to check out the entrant list to see how many 1st time triathletes there are out of that 1700.

Over 700 people are competing in their first triathlon on that day.  I don't know about everyone else, but I find that a very encouraging sign for women's triathlons and the sport in general.

That's awesome! I think word of mouth is everything. I just keep telling all my friends that "anyone who puts their mind to it, can do triathlons".  I have recruited 5 women to the sport since last year!

It's great that there are so many new triathletes.  I've been encouraging a lot of my friends to do one.  I know that if I can do it, they can too.  I think anyone who wants to if they are determined and willing to put the effort in.

I love it when there's more women   But seriously, that's really cool for the sport.

Emily (EmilyG) and I are doing the Boston Irongirl race as a Mom-Daughter team on Sunday. Sadly here in Boston they do it as a 5K and have just road races and no triathlon. Cool mom daughter bonding time..I keep telling her she needs to push me so I can PR my 5K time.

I'm signed up and really excited....though I'm a little intimidated by the hills in Columbia!

Any tips or advice about the course, etc. from cubefarmgopher or any other columbia triathlon competitor would be greatly appreciated.

I'm an athena, first timer and just looking to do my best. I actually got involved in the sport because my husband does mountain bike races and I thought....I can race too and get in shape at the same time...and tris are more my style.  Now, he intends to tri too!
