I have a chance to get a 2002 Trek 2000WSD from the original owner for $800 delivered. It has 35 miles on it (supposedly prefers mountainbiking). This is aluminum w/carbon fork. Has this drivetrain:

SHIFTERS: Shimano 105 STI
FRONT DERAILLEUR: Shimano Tiagra T
REAR DERAILLEUR: Shimano 105 GS
CRANKSET: Shimano 105 52/42/30
CASSETTE: Shimano HG-50 12-25, 9spd

and comes with Shimano M515 pedals.

I can also get a new Trek 1500WSD at the LBS for about $900 (plus taxes) if they can find one in my size.

Shifters Shimano ST-R600 STI, adjustable reach, 9 speed
Front Derailleur Shimano 105
Rear Derailleur Shimano Ultegra
Crank Bontrager Race 52/42/30
Cassette Shimano HG50 12-25, 9 speed

Any opinions on this? I'm really torn...and it's a tough time to find a new Trek WSD (for the next few months, as they have year end) but I'm pretty sold on Trek WSD and road bike... ok, and the girly thing...I do NOT like the 2006 1500 ice blue color :-(

Seeking wisdom!

I don't think $800 is a good price for the 4-year old used bike.

$900 for the 1500 is. If it fits well, it has better components, its new, probably some extras from the shop like free tune ups, etc, so I would pick that bike out of the two.

My only caution is to make sure that you want an all aluminum frame. In my experience they are very good at getting up and going, are very responsive, and very durable. The one thing that I don't like is not having carbon seat stays to take out some of the vibration issues riding on some of the roads that I ride going to work.

I second that. $400 for a 4yo bike with 105/tiagra is reasonable. The 1500 sounds like a good deal (Ice Blue or not).
