Subject: Emporia Spring Migration Tri - Who is in?

I know it conflicts with Rock the Parkway the day before, but who wants to join me in Emporia for the first tri of the season?  Spring Migration tri is a fun little sprint tri to get the season started and blow out the cobwebs.  400 meter indoor pool swim, 12 mile relatively flat bike, and 5k rolling hill run.  Sunday, April 14th at the ESU stadium.  Transition is on the track at the football field right outside of the adjoining pool building.  The run is a bit uphill on the way out and mostly downhill on the way back with a flat last 2/5 mile to the finish.

Great for beginners or anyone wanting to get a tri under their belt to start the season and practice transitions without the pressure of a big time event.  There is chip timing and age group awards.

I will probably do a long bike ride that day after Rock the Parkway.  I'll get the cobwebs out during the swim at the 5150

I'm out, but interested in a ride on the IMKS course sometime. Now that basketball season is over for me, I can get back to training and away from the booze and fried foods

I'll start another thread, but what about this weekend?

A couple questions:

How many entrants would you say there usually are?
Is the pool 50 meters? Just trying to visualize the swim.
If you're from the KC area, do you drive down the morning of the race, or do you stay in Emporia the night before?

The 10-day weather forecast is looking really good!

About 120 people or so last year (I think).  You can look up last year's results for an accurate number.  Small enough to be a relaxed atmosphere but enough people to make it worthwhile.

25 meter pool.  swim up and back staying on the right side, go under the lane line on the turn to the next lane, up and back, under lane line on turn, repeat until you have done the whole 8 lane pool.

Drive down the morning of the race.  If I recall, it isn't as early a start as most races.

Registered yesterday before the price increase. Thanks for putting this up. I had assumed that hubby and son would be bike racing next weekend, so it wasn't even on my radar. They're going on a Scout campout instead, so I'm free to do my own thing.

They should show up on the Active.com website, or do a Google search for the race and include "results" in the search.  Did you get your individual results slip before you left?

Can't seem to find them but oh well. Yeah the race was awesome, slippery walls on the pool and it being my first triathlon and first swim I was freaking out a bit. A lot more turbulent water then swimming in a pool. And that wind, what fun going out, not as much coming in. Great race, I finished in 1:08:24. Congrats on 3rd place!

Nice work Patrick! Way to represent us over 40 guys! I was out there riding today, was thinking about your race while riding south into 30 mph headwinds :P

What a great race--I would definitely do it again. I was really happy with my swim, but I hear you about the slippery sides at the deep end. My hands feel arthritic from trying to stay upright on the bike return. I'm petite, and those crosswinds blew me all over the lane. I was just curious about my fitness coming out of the winter, and I got some good answers as to where I need to pick up the training. Congrats to all of you!
