Subject: Sliding or removing rim strip? (Flo Wheels)
I am attempting to put tires on my Flo wheels. The rim strips they came with are a big loop, in the process of putting the first one on it slid a bit and the hole for the valve no longer quite lines up. It fits very tight and I see no way to slide or remove it without destroying it. How can I slide it 1/4 of an inch or so? The hole for the valve is still under the reinforced area, can I just enlarge the hole in the rim tape?

Do yourself a favor, take it off and replace it with velox rim tape, get at your LBS

x1000! The plastic tape that just snaps into place quite often moves and exposes the spoke holes. The velox tape is glued and will stick to the rim, plus the fabric tape stretches so it won't move. A much better tape and quite inexpensive insurance for long term functionality.

Again; the very first time you take the tire off of a rim, throw away the rim strip and replace with Velox tape.

agree with the Velox.

One word of caution though if you plan to use latex tubes... if you don't take them out (long term, like year+) it's possible that the latex will start meshing with the fabric of the strip. You'll ruin the tube taking it out.

Doesn't usually come up, but since we're talking race wheels, might has well mention it.

The rim strips that came with the wheels look pretty sturdy to me but I'll take your word for it. From what I understand the flo wheels are wider than standard wheels, do I need special rim tape?

I decided against latex tubes for several reasons, I am going to try light weight butyl.

There are two widths: One for road rims and one for mountain bike rims. The road is narrower. See if you can get the cross sectional width of your rim to determine which to use. Otherwise; your LBS is your friend here.

Do both wheels.
