Well done on completing your first race, and as I have a few 'Canadian Guy' friends I know what you mean!

I'm interested in hearing the responses as have the same question after completing my 2nd race yesterday. I just jogged about 5 mins to 'warm' myself up but I particularly need to get the swim warm-up sorted as I only really relax about 200m into it, and thats a little late when I'm only swimming 400m!

Whats the best recommendations?

There is not much left to do before heading out for the swim leg. I just warm up by walking around for awhile with the other competitors then just prior to the swim I stretch my arms and shoulders as well as my legs.

Most (but no all) events will allow you to get in the water before the race begins. This is a big help in doing a few strokes to warm up a bit, test out your goggles for leaks or fit, and general stretching of the swim muscles. At least for me it's a great help.
