Good luck on your race. I have a race myself this Saturday and I'll be carrying the Edge 305 with me. I'm sure it'll be fun and interesting to analyze all the race vitals post race. :-)

I currently go running/cycling with the Garmin Etrex Vista, and I have to question the data on the runs.  Is there any issues that you guys have seen with the Edge and running?  I know it is a Cycling computer first, but how does it do with the distance on running?

Being that it's a GPS device, it's either picks up or it doesn't.  I would say that there is no issues for running/swimming/biking/driving/walking/skipping/hiking/flying (yes I've seen a log for a guy who flew from San Fran CA to CO)...it's does it all without any problems as long as it is picking up a signal from the satalites.  The edge has a barometric altimeter built in which can be a little picky on elevation +/- but only if you have it recording for every second (which garmin doesn't advise).

It is deffinately money spent worth while!

If the Edge had the same software (ie multisport) as the Forerunner, I would have bought it instead. Heck, if they offer it in a firmware upgrade, I'd sell my Forerunner and buy one. I really use the separate running and cycling HR zones in the Forerunner and the "speed" is not smoothed at all on the Edge and is quite jumpy.

I have the Edge 305.  It is a great toy.  It takes a minute or so to lock onto satellites when you turn it on.  Other than that it is great.  I have carried mine running a few times.  It seems to work just fine.  I would buy a wrist band that mounts the main unit securely on my arm if one were available.   Some people have issues with battery life on very long rides.

I carried the Edge 305 on a recent run. It lost signal on my way to Central Park. I also put it in my pocket on the way to the park, but I'm not sure if that's what caused it because once I was in the park, I put it in my pocket for half the time and it seems to have tracked fine. My route has a lot of tall buildings on the way to Central Park, then there are the trees to deal with once I'm in the park.

You can see the data here:

http://trail.motionbased.com/trail/episode/view.mb?episodePk.pkValu...

You'll see how it cuts through blocks when it dropped the signal. You're right that it's a cycling device first, but for me, it seems to work just as well for running. The only thing I wonder about is the calories burned when I take it for a run. I would like to know if it uses a generic formula for calculating calories burned, or if the forerunner and edge 305's have different formulas.

I just got the Forerunner 305 for an early b-day present from DH. I took it on my first brick this morning and am in love with it. I have so much to learn about the stats and functionality, but it will definitely take my training up a notch!!!

Wooo Hoo!!!!

I'm seconds away from pushing the button as well.

Anyone have any insights into WHO has it the cheapest?

I'm researching the web as we speak. Amazon: $296 for the Forerunner 305. I don't think I'm interested in the Edge model.

Does anyone know if the Forerunner 305 has the same "uploadable" capabilities to Motionbased.com? Yes it does.

The Forerunner 305 is priced at $218 on buy.com here.

Take another $10 for starting a new Google Checkout account.

Also, sign up for PowerBar's newsletter (Here) and get a $50 mail-in rebate (or $75 for the Edge 305).

Total cost after Mail-In Rebate: $158.

You can also use the X05 indoors now. They make a foot pod accessory now. I haven't used it (because I don't particularly like (ok hate) treadmill running) but I suspect like the other accessories it works well.

Footpod page on garmin.com
