Sunny
Total Time = 3h 21m 14s
Overall Rank = 76/123
Age Group = 35-39
Age Group Rank = 8/10
Event warmup:

None
Swim
  • 36m 40s
  • 1500 meters
  • 02m 26s / 100 meters
Comments:

Water was of comortable temperature but was very chopy. This lead to feeling like I was swiming in a washing mashine. Thie chop made it very difficult to sight where I was going and forced several changes to breaststroke just to confirm where I wa.
What would you do differently?:

Need to work on sighting better. This caused significant discomfort on knowing where I was.
Transition 1
  • 03m 52s
Comments:

Still struggle to get Bike Jersey on and the socks were a bit of a challenge as well.
What would you do differently?:

Use the black sock and roll them on. A tri top would be helpful to save some significant time in transition. A tri-bike shoe in the future would also be helpful.
Bike
  • 1h 27m 46s
  • 26 miles
  • 17.84 mile/hr
Comments:

This was a solid effort in the ride. Stayed pretty much in the 140-150 HR area with the exception of the hils that had to be climbed. Picked up one place in the age group, one spot in the gender and and 10 places overall.
What would you do differently?:

Maybe back off the the pace on the bike a bit to save more for the run. This is the second tri now that I was pretty smoked going into the run.
Transition 2
  • 02m 50s
Comments:

Was pretty tired coming into this trasition and used it to catch my breath.
What would you do differently?:

Do a better job of racking the bike. That seemed to cause some unneeded delay.
Run
  • 1h 10m 6s
  • 6.21 miles
  • 11m 18s  min/mile
Comments:

Pretty much bonked going into the start of the run. Was not able to hold a run for much more than 1/2 mile to 1/4 mile at a time.
What would you do differently?:

Try to have something still in the tank. By just being able to hold a run all the way to the end should be able to drop about 10 minutes off my total time.
Post race
Warm down:

Just stretching an cooling off.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

I suspect less than adequate fueling and hydration did not help my performance. More confidence in my open water swiming would probably helped a well.

Event comments:

This is a small-ish event that is good for the in-experienced triathlete.

I went down to the beach the day before to scout out the course, and it was glorious...the sun was out, the sea was as smooth as glass, and only a hint of a breeze was blowing. “Perfect,” I thought.
