Congrats to Jayhox and Funkj25...it looks like both of them had great races with both of them going under 2:10. The split times are messed up on the race site, but the overall times are there and they both look good.

I don't know if anyone else from this board was there.

Great job guys.

Thanks!  Great venue for the race.  Milwaukee has a great downtown with good restaurants, nightlife, etc.  I was very impressed.

I am usually out front on the swim with little traffic.  But when we got to the first buoy there were about 12 of us hitting it at the same time.  Made for an interesting swim.  Shoulder to shoulder with about 6 guys for the entire 1500 meters.  I ended up officially 4th out of the water, but about 4 of us tied for 2nd out of the water and it was a matter of inches between us crossing the timing mat.  What a blast!  Of course, most of them were phenominal cyclists and runners who crushed my dreams of a podium in short order.  :-)

But I had a PR, finished 26th out of 211, and couldn't be happier about my race.  I found out that I was 1 spot out of being eligible for the rolldown to qualify for the 2014 world championships.  Oh well, maybe next year!

Yeah definitely a great venue I'm looking forward to being able to actually compete there again next year. Missed out on my automatic qualification by placing top third in the age group, but I'll get re-qualified earlier next year to avoid the 3-week beforehand registration panic that happened this year.

Not sure how you got the nice results format Patrick, but here are mine anyway.

Place 200 Overall 44/114 Age Group
Jesse Funk Male 24 Lenexa KS
Swim 00:23:40 565th 1:26/100yd
T1 00:01:40
Bike 01:04:32 646th 23.1mph
T2 00:00:57
Run 00:35:39 25th 5:44 min/mile
Total Time: 02:06:25.64

Apparently I had the 25th fastest run split for the day. Can you tell I come from a running background? Still getting stomped on the swim and bike.
Patrick maybe I can coerce you into helping me swim faster and I can help you run faster? I'm hoping to be closer to 21 flat on the swim next year to really be in contention, but I'm going to need lots of work. Preferably I'd be 20 flat to really be in it to win it, but I'm not sure that's realistic in a years time. Still a 3 minute drop on the swim and 8 minutes overall from last year so I made my time goals this year, but a long way to go yet compared to my fellow collegiate recruits ending up in the top 20 overall type positions.

Well done, Jesse!  I think I have discovered something in my run recently that will help me go faster.  I also need to train longer.  I upped my mileage from last year and have seen an improvement, but know I need to go even longer this off-season.  I also plan to throw in more track/speed work so that I can get my stride and run cadence up to where it needs to be.

Will you be at HyVee?

Yeah I'll be at Hy-vee, but I'm having a hard time focusing at least for the first few days this week. I train essentially 7 days a week for the whole year so I'm ready for a break. Trying to keep it together for one last race at Hyvee before a few weeks off down time/maintenance.

Just in case you're thinking about it don't worry about your stride length. Just focus on the frequency and the drive behind you. That will naturally lead to a longer stride. Thinking about it typically ends in over-striding forward and braking.

I know I need more time in the pool and some more hands on instruction since I spend just about all of my days swimming by myself so my college's swim coach has agreed to take me on and let me swim with the swim team there. I need to move from my 13-15k a week in the pool to probably 20-25k to get where I want to be around 21 or faster for next year so we'll see what happens.

The start of the race I had the jitters. I was watching the other age groups start as they seeded the swim with over 1000 participants.
