Subject: Planned Invitational Sprint Triathlon becomes Bike/run Three of us planned the first Yorktown (VA ) Invitational Sprint Tri for noon today, Saturday, October 5. Unfortunately, the planned pool swim (at USCG Training Center next to Yorktown Battlefield Park ) was not to be due to the government "shutdown." Since one of my friends had done a (fast ) 5K with his son in the morning, we ended up with a just a bike/run, which we did together.
Bike - 16 miles (just over 50 min ); Run - 3.1 miles (25 min ). I am 56; my friends are 44 and 49 (and they are capable of much faster ). I live on the Battlefield National Park, so the run was entirely within the National Park. We'll try it again with a real triathlon when the pool has reopened. It only cost me three Gatorades, and I didn't have to get in my car! Next time we'll take a picture.
If you are a bit strapped for cash and time to travel, this is a good way to get in an "event!"
