Subject: No turning back

About a year ago when I joined BT I had a long term plan of training for the full distance, the Ironman distance.  I read hundreds of threads and have come to know dozens of people through BT.

Today, 250 days into my Ironman training schedule I finally pushed the button and registered for the Redman Triathlon in Oklahoma City Sept. 23rd.  In eight weeks I'll either be an Ironman or someone who tried to be a Ironman.

Now, more than ever, I have so much respect for those of you who have gone the distance.  Training has been difficult and plagued with injury.  I had my first 17 hour week last week.  My body is changing, my mind if struggling to keep up with the schedule.  But I will do it.  People like Madcow, Rocket Man, Comet etc inspire me.  Theirs and others race reports give me motivation.  BT is the reason I pushed the button.  I'm not alone in this adventure.

Thanks to all of you who have inspired me directly or indirectly just by threading on BT.  God willing in 8 weeks I'll be posting an Iron-distance race report.

Congrats!! I've been seriously considering pulling the trigger as well. But I just cannot fathom one yet. My body can, but my mind is not ready yet.

Good luck!

You're gonna rock Redman! You have been putting in the hours... mental and physical and I know you'll be 110% prepared on Sept. 23rd! Keep up the hard work!

from what I have read, it seems like pacing yourself is one of the most important things during an IM, that and the mental ability to tell yourself to push on.  Good luck, you can do it

From my limited experience it seems like the humility and respect for the distance you are expressing are exactly what is needed to motivate you to put in the proper training.

You will be prepared, you will be ready, and you will be an IRONMAN!

Thanks John.

I am much more humble and respectful for the distance and those able to conquer Ironman now that I am actually putting in the miles and hours.  I have learned so much about myself these past 9 months.  I'm sure the next 7 weeks I'll learn even more.  What I am looking forward to most is that point during the race when I have given everything I have of myself and I discover who I am, what I am made of.  American Indians call this a Vision Quest, a solitary vigil of self discovery.

Yeah, and then you still have to do the second half of the bike and the run!!!
