Overcast
Total Time = 1h 09m 36s
Overall Rank = 21/167
Age Group = 35-39 Male
Age Group Rank = 2/5
Pre-race routine:

Drove up saturday morning, got transition set up and killed about 25 minutes before the race started.
Event warmup:

Swam 100m in the pool. First time I've swam since september.
Swim
  • 06m 49s
  • 300 meters
  • 02m 16s / 100 meters
Comments:

I haven't really trained, so it's my fault I sucked. Pretty short run to transition.
What would you do differently?:

Train more
Transition 1
  • 00m 57s
Comments:

Not bad, but not really good either. I forgot to take my googles off, so I had to bike with them around my neck like a moron.
Bike
  • 36m 59s
  • 12 miles
  • 19.47 mile/hr
Comments:

Felt pretty good on the bike after finally getting my feet into the shoes. I also left my straps strapped, so I had to unvelcro them before I could put my feet in. My first ride with a rear wheel cover, which was interesting at times with the wind gusts. Really big hills for me.
What would you do differently?:

Pay more attention in set up before the race.
Transition 2
  • 01m 16s
Comments:

Worst transition I've ever done. The bike jump off line snuck up on me and I didn't have my feet out of my shoes. I unclipped and then couldn't get my socks on like an idiot. I lost my age group here.
What would you do differently?:

Get my head together coming into t2, don't wear socks.
Run
  • 23m 36s
  • 5 kms
  • 04m 43s  min/km
Comments:

Not terrible, but I could've went faster. I started a little too slow and sped up at the end. I felt a little slow after the bike, but looking back I should have started pushing earlier.
What would you do differently?:

Start pushing sooner.
Post race
Warm down:

Had a water and an orange and talked to some people.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

No swimming and total mind meltdown in t2.

Event comments:

Really fun race. I had a great time, I'll do it again next year.

I'm doing the 22 week sprint tri program and the 2 mile bike ride it starts with is not very challenging. I see this as a opportunity to train the right way and challenge myself. Any ideas?

This past spring I realized a few of us were heading in the wrong direction physically. We were getting together for poker games and kids’ birthdays, but that was it.

The challenge? The accomplishment? I want to do this because it is an opportunity to live life. The event is an indoor sprint triathlon. I get to experience the challenge on a safer scale.

Already a cyclist and not a bad swimmer, I figured all I had to do was build up to running a few miles and I’d be ready to go. The challenge invigorated me, and I ran out to buy new running shoes.
