Man, I need to start reading BT on the weekend - I miss too much and then have to catch up...

Races and riding bikes and rattle snakes... OH MY!

Some fantastic photos from this weekend too, so I'll add mine!  Almost 30 miles of riding into the wind (we NEVER seemed to get the tail wind) and trying to out-run a thunder and lightning storm.  We got a little wet as we got back to the house and within minutes of us getting back, this happened:

What the Hail?!?

 Run for your lives!

And that's why I stayed inside! Would have been caught well out in the middle of it all. Lots of electrical activity by me and it looked like the sun had mostly gone down by late morning.

It was CRAZY!  I'm glad I got to finally ride outside, but it was dangerous out there really quickly.  We probably should have gone to brunch instead.

As for dings to the car, who cares?  It's the bike that really counts!  Glad you made it home safely.

Hahaha!  The bikes seemed okay other than completely soaked elbow pads.  Laura's car was just fine too - but Scotty's police cruiser had about 5-6 dings in it... the bikes are tougher than the police car!

Respect the 70.3 distance

Respect all the distances!  If you put in a race effort, your body needs to recover.  (This is probably even true for Adrienne!)

I am so glad that the training has been working as a stress reducer.

How is your internet connection there?  At my brother's location, he pays through the nose and get's dial up speed.  Hopefully you have better than that!  I don't want the Manatees to become a source of frustration with all of the chatter than can go on!

Relaxation massage?  Sign me up!  That sounds like a great weekend :-)

Glad that you made it through OK.  At first I thought it was flowers all over the place.  Like the petals had been blown of in the wind.  Then I saw it was hail!  YIKES!

The internet in my room is slow and expensive. I use the computers in the office or at the MWR to catch up on the Manatees. No frustration from this group, just the gorup I work with.

Ha!  I'm sooooooo glad we missed that all together, but flower petals wouldn't have hurt nearly as much if we got caught out in those falling from the skies... yeah, we should have just gone for brunch.

I am not normally bad at missing spelling errors, I can not believe I missed that one. I was suddenly asked to get off the computer because someone "needed" to do some work, he is now on Facebook and I am on a diferent computer.

I know what the Manatee response is going to be, but sometimes you just have to hear it again. I am about to register for the Beach to Battleship (B2B) Half. I am slightly worried that my swim will not be 100% for it, the bike and run should not be an issue. I am being told that I should be home by mid-Sept which will give me about 4-6 weeks in the pool/OWS, time on my actual bike and time for some hill training.

Besides...DO IT!!!!

Do the Manatees think if I maintain my training and increase my dryland swim that I would be able to get back in the pool and be at or close to being able to do the swim distance? (It is wetsuit required which I already have one.)

Will the lack of hills here in Afghanistan have a big impact on my running/biking? Not sure what the course is like.

Will training only on an indoor exercise bike be an inhibiting factor for the bike? (Planning to do the Sufferfest Videos for my workouts.)

The course was scenic but hilly.  Just past mile 10 I thought to myself, "I am never doing this race again!"  Then, after the race, we passed the sign up for 2015 at a deep discount booth and I had to restrain myself.  The only reason that I didn't is that I have no idea what else I have going on next year/

However, there was a damper on things.  I saw four people receiving medical attention from EMS workers.  I later learned that two people died during the event. It was not hot -- it got to 70 by noon and the humidity was not bad.  Not California low but definitely not summer in the south high.

Do you have a wetsuit?  Are you experienced using it?  In other words, this won't be your first race using it, will it?

How are you with wind on the bike?
