Good morning BT!

4:30am;  65 minute run.  Good run, however I have an issue.  I ordered a new HR monitor to pair with my Garmin 305 (I lost my other one somewhere in St. George).  Started my run this morning with my usual HR--increasing as I got warmed up, etc.  All of a sudden the number starts climbing really fast and before I know it, my HR is registering at 200+ and climbing! So I stop and walk and it continues to climb to 242 and hovers there.  For the next 50 minutes my run became a cycle of getting my HR back to normal and then it shoots way back up to 242.  I'm thinking something is off with this monitor. Anyone have any experience with why this might be happening?

Have a great day!

It's got to be the monitor--if your HR really was 242 you would be near death! I'm assuming if you kept running for the next 50 minutes you actually felt normal. Are you outside or on the treadmill? When I'm running or biking outside, the monitor consistently malfunctions in a few places along my run/bike routes. I can only assume this is because of some kind of electrical interference. (There are wires everywhere in Saigon, some of which are probably amateur hookup jobs, so this isn't surprising.) I often bike in a port area, so maybe there is some kind of navigational signal that it picks up. It is always at the point where I'm closest to a turn in the river, and there's some kind of beacon there.

If inside or it isn't always happening in the same location, could be a number of things like poor contact of the sensor with your skin (I had one that would lose contact because the strap was too loose), skin/monitor strap too dry (also had one that I had to smear with water before starting in cool weather), cold temps outside, etc. I'd check the manual or website and try what they suggest, or call the service number.

Only one workout today for a change: One hour trainer ride at 5:15 AM, 3 X 10 minutes hard. AC really wasn't up to much and I think I set a world sweat record. Actually went to get another fan with 20 minutes to go as really thought I would puke/melt. Ready to start taper!

Good Morning

Pool day for me at lunch.

Definitely sounds like the HR Monitor needs to go back Kim that's really wonky, I have never had one behave like that the worst I had was one that read about 10 BPM high and I knew that so I just used it as it was till one of the Puppers got it one day and decided it tasted to good to resist.

You might try re pairing it again and see if that makes a difference that all I can think of right now.

Have a great day all

Hi all. I don't think I've been on BT all week, might be a record. I need to bike today, but it looks like we might get t-storms after work, which means the trainer.

First week back in the pool since last August. I do have a sprint in two weeks so I'm pretty sure I procrastinated to the absolute last minute. Was pretty pleased that after  3 days in the pool I could bang out a 500yd main set, so I will at least survive my sprint. Can't lift my arms over my head today, but oh well! Coaching starts Tuesday. I need it.

Another slow 2 mile run this morning. Legs were mush from last nights ride - my longest this year but only 13.5 miles.

Teach,
I've had errant readings with my HR monitor also but only on the bike and going down hill. My shirt and/or jacket get to flapping and I think the HR monitor is reading that along with my heartrate. When I'm on a flat or pulling a hill its normal. You must run fast...

After school run for me, nothing big, still feeling fatigued since StG.

However, Kim, I decided to jump on the HR bandwagon and got a new Garmin 310XT with the HRM. Excited to play with the new toy, pluis sarting implementing HR in my training

Awesome!  It really changed my training. I realized early on using HR I wasn't working nearly as hard as I was capable of.

I just got my workout for today. 4 flying 200m efforts. So 800m of biking. My shortest workout ever. And it's supposed to take at least an hour.  Of course, I will ride to and from the velodrome so I guess I will be riding for 25km at least.

5:00 run... wait.  Snooze. Snooze again.  Get to work.

Will do it at lunch instead.  Dang it, Work lunch meeting pops up.

OK, run after work.  Whoops, 9 year old son is having a sleep over with 8 friends.  I believe that will be the workout.

Gotta love being a Dad!

4 mile run practicing following a pace rather than just hammering out the first 2 miles then suffering the last 1.5 miles and barely not quitting for the last 1/2 mile

I'm on the other side of the college-student desk. I'm the one with the red pen in my hand. Those of us with schedules that change from day to day actually have an advantage, I think.
