Local 5Ks, 10Ks, and sprints Tris (ABQ)

I just started getting back into swimming and running and don't yet have a bike, but I want to sign up for some races so I have something to look forward to. Any suggestions for good 5K run/walks this fall? Also, can anyone tell me more about the Polar Bear Tri in December? Is it a pool swim or open water? Speaking of open water, are there any good places to practice open water swims in the Albuquerque area? And finally, when I try to track down info about races at White Sands Missile Range (they seem to have a lot) all I can find is a generic entry form. Is there a website or other place to get more info about specific races or a calendar of upcoming events?

Oh, I guess one more thing. I haven't owned a bike in years, and I don't have a lot of cash right now. Any suggestions for finding a cheap (used is fine) bike? And then, if I find one, is there a place in town where I can learn more about cycling, fixing flat tires, and changing out bike parts?

I know this is a lot, but I'd appreciate any advice or help from more experienced locals. I'm also new to the area and looking forward to getting to know NM through races.
