Overall Rank = 22/773

Pre-race routine:

It's a chore to get there, you have to take a shuttle to transition. Got there late and met up with some friends, rushed to set up.
Event warmup:

Only downside of this race is that you cannot really warm up. Got on the ferry and sat around.
Swim
  • 11m 17s
  • 616 yards
  • 01m 50s / 100 yards
Comments:

Always struggle with the ocean swim. This may have been a little better but not much. The current kept pushing everyone to the right and they were yelling at everyone to stay left.
Transition 1
  • 03m 47s
Comments:

It's a long transition up the beach. Better transition this year - really tried to run through it.
Bike
  • 26m 51s
  • 10 miles
  • 22.35 mile/hr
Comments:

Good bike and picked up almost 2 minutes over last year.
Transition 2
  • 01m 20s
Run
  • 23m 19s
  • 5 kms
  • 04m 40s  min/km
Comments:

Pretty good run considering the beach section which really slows you down.

Event comments:

This is a great revenue and a well run race. Logistics were more challenging this year as they doubled the number of racers. There was some waiting around but it's amazing they get that many people to jump off a boat safely. Waited around for AG awards and did not realize I won Grand Masters division - had never heard of it actually.

When I told my husband that I planned to work toward completing a sprint triathlon, he smiled and was supportive, but a bit disbelieving.

I was passing others who were saying, "Good job, 587" (that was my race number). People were cheering me on. These were the nicest people I have ever been around!

At some point I remember thinking about the movie CAPE FEAR. This is what it seemed like when I was around a lot of people. It was just a lot of commotion of waves, arms and feet.
