The aerodynamic myth may apply to cycling, but I've heard there is decidedly less resistance in the water. True benefits are less severe road rash, and easier and more pleasant massages. I really think it's a status thing, though, that you're part of an exclusive "club" of committed cyclists/athletes.

I'm in! I was planning it anyway, but count me in for the 'moral support' factor.

And yes, first time in the pool after I shaved. OMG! The best feeling ever. Well, almost.

I'm in for Friday. I was going to do it before my tri in August, but I was thinking that I needed to do it early to get used to it. I've been shaving my chest for awhile now... kind of funny how I got started into that. My wife decided that I needed to "trim" my chest hair a bit, so she brought the electric razor out and skunked me right down the middle. There was no way I was going to the gym like that so I shaved the whole thing and haven't turned back since. She loves it, but isn't too excited about the legs though.

I am not in for a week or so. I go on vacation on saturday for a week. One last vacation with hair please! After that, it can come off. If you decide to do it earlier, you have my word, I will do it the day I get back (7/24)!!!

I am always. Some tomorrow it is.

It will feel funny, the first night you sleep though. The sheets kind of tickly.

I started a little early and shaved my head tonight with a straight razor for the first time. I actually convinced my wife to do it and it feels strange

Shaving? I've been doing it on and off since Greg Lemond beat that french guy back in the 80's in the last time trial of the tour by 9 seconds only (or 8?). Anyway, I shaved when it was way too weird for a guy to shave his legs. I shaved when I was active duty on the ship (USS CARL VINSON CVN 72) in the communal shower rooms. I used the "lifecycles" with my spandex shorts and shaved legs among all the crew. I shaved even when my wife teased me to death about it. I shaved before I crashed in 87. I shaved after I crashed again in 97 (same collarbone) And I shave now that am a physical education teacher and Physical Fitness Specialist.
Guys, go for it! It tells that you are committed to the sport. About european women not shaving their armpits, I still think it is ok. Back in Mexico in the old days many girls did not shave either. I think it is a matter of culture, not implying it is beauty or good or anything like that. It is just what our environment has been telling us. Contradictory concepts? Yeaph!

I shave my back and some other places, but just trim my chest and legs short with a beard trimmer. My back has a weird patch on one side, so I do it to not look like I have a fungus growing on me. I have had it waxed a few times, but that got old, I can shave it in about 2 minutes in the shower. I used to shave my legs when I was a teenager, the hair hurt in my ski boots, I raced so the boots were really tight... I can go a few days w/o shaving, but the legs, if you go too long, and wear pants, it is REALLY uncomfortable. So if I am lazy one too many days in a row... ouch@! Whether you shave or don't someone will think it's weird that you do or don't. When I was in the Army, I would get weird looks when I shaved my back in the communal showers, and if I didn't do it, people would tell me that I had grease or dirt or something on my back... And I saw more women growing up in Maine, than I did when I was in Russia...

i had to just start with my upper leg region... shaving this am would take far too much time away from watching the tour (which was well worth surviving the hangover and waking up early to watch) Hopefully all the other 'participants' in the festivities havn't left me all alone
