I recently moved into the Cleveland School area, near Clayton, and wondered if there are triathletes who regularly ride around here.  It's pretty tough to ride right now, with the cold, but come warmer weather would love to get in with a group for frequent training rides.

I ride the Neuse River greenway from Falls Lake into Clayton nearly every week with my wife (road bikes). The greenway is really nice To ride on. It attracts a few triathletes, but really isn't a very good place for aerobars/fast riding. We take Oneal road into Clayton for a lunch date. Oneal isn't very safe for riding, but there are lots of low traffic roads in the area. If I were you, I would check out Johnny's Bike Shop (on Main Street) to ask about group rides.

K thanks.  We moved to the area only from about 10-12 miles away and the area we previously lived in had great roads for early morning riding.  Other than getting buzzed a few times, the early morning rides on the weekend were almost always without incident.  I have a few routes planned for the new locale and will just have to ride them to get the 'feel' for the community and the tolerance for cyclists.

I live in Clayton relatively close to the Cleveland area. My main routes take me right past Cleveland High School. If you are looking for a 20-30 mile ride the area offers many possibilities, but I prefer to do any longer rides on the north side of Clayton, closer to Archer's Lodge and even into Wilson County.

And I do have a group I ride with. They are on hiatus now, but once the weather warms up I'll let you know when they ride. I also have been known to brave the cool weather so if you are feeling like you want to get out sometime soon let me know, I'm always up for a ride.
