5 years ago I trained for and ran a 10k. I was told I was gonna get addicted. Didn't happen.
18 months ago I started this tri thing. They told me I was gonna get addicted. I didn't believe them...

This week, I signed up for 2 tris (sprints) this season (Twice as many as last year), a 10k, an open water course and a bike course.

On Sunday I ran my longest run ever and went out running today too, despite going to the gym at lunch time, (2 workouts in a day, never happened before)

What do you think, "they" were right, weren't they??

Loving it!

Be careful. It is like any addiction. What got you high yesterday won't work tomorrow. Sure, it is sprints this year, with maybe an Oly thrown in at the end just to see how it feels. Before you know it, you will be picking out the tattoo artist for your M-dot.

Be careful with this bug...known to cause the below issues....

1. Spending large amount of money and time in local bike shop.
2. Waking up at god awful hours to go run in the rain, snow, etc.
3. Putting strange number decals on the back of your car/truck.
4. Paying $300 for a watch that doesn't tell time.
5. Collecting enough race shirts provide clothing for a small village.

Welcome to the club.

Well, I don't believe you, as I can't see myself doing longer distances than sprint...
Then again, I didn't believe "them" and look at me now.... I don't know what to believe any more...

I can relate. Did one sprint. Needed another fix a month later. Then winter training. Next year 6 sprint, one oly and a half. Always said I would never do a half. Now I have completed 3. I see no good reason to do a full. Signed up for Louisville. Addiction is the only word that fits.
Don't even want to think about the equipment. The endless money dump to see HR, power, cadence, how long I touch ground and how much I bounce. It is endless. Uugggg.

I used to say that.  I've since done numerous Olympic distances and am signed up for my first 70.3 this summer, so those words may 'bite' you someday!

Wherever this 'addiction' takes you, remember to have fun along the way!

I've sworn up and down that there was no way in heck I'd ever do an IM or a marathon because I didn't want to endure that much pain.  Now I'm reading a book by Kathrine Switzer, who in 1967 was the first woman  officially ran the Boston Marathon.  Even though I'm injured right now, I'm catching myself thinking, "I could do that.  I could run a marathon.  Not right now but eventually."  It's a sickness, I tell you, a sickness!

I have friends who run ultras. I have never run more than 15 miles, but they have me thinking... It is a sickness.

Yeah but a good one, isn't it? Better to be addicted to this than alcohol or other drugs!

I don't feel sick I feel great!

My official stance is that if the distance is longer than 26.2 miles I'm riding my bike.

Awesome! Way too true!

Guilty of all but number 3 - though, i often do wear race shirts on casual fridays or may find myself sporting more than one piece of 'Ironman' branded gear ... guilty guilty guilty!

I often joke about this... at least triathlon is healthier than a drug habit. Probably not cheaper, though.

that's true. although I haven't started spending heavy Money yet, just the entry fee to the 3 races I have signed up for this year could have bough me a nice meal at a posh restaurant including wine!

Just smashed my 3k run record by 2 minutes (since early December). making progress is something I get high on too!

Absolutely!!  Every time I reach a new milestone, either a distance or a race PR, I'm so proud of myself.  When I did my 1st ever 10k in November and placed 13/53 in my AG (in 14* weather and on ice and snow, no less!!), I smiled non-stop for 3 days.  It was totally worth the entry fee to get that sweet feeling.

Right now, I'm coming off some injuries and have been totally jonesing for a fix.  It's gotten so bad that I've even been jealous of the people I see running while it's snowing and cold!!  I finally got to run last night for the 1st time in a couple months.  It felt SO wonderful, even thought I only ran 4x for 30 sec. each.  It's funny how much I miss something that I didn't do for 25 years and only restarted last year!
