Overall Rank = 1255/1274
Age Group = Athena 40-49
Age Group Rank = 12/12
Pre-race routine:

Coffee, banana, terrible bagel. Set up stuff at the transition area. Had WAY too much time on my hands to worry and fret about the swim, almost panicked and ran away with my bike...no one would notice...right?
Swim
  • 33h 17m
  • 1100 yards
  • 3h 01m 33s / 100 yards
Comments:

Was terrified of the swim, relaxed focused on my mantra, swim-my-swim-breathe-swim-my-swim-breathe...worked well for me. Closed my eyes thru most of it and went into the swim zone. Went WAY beyond the hard left bouy, drove me nuts, probably added another 200 yeards...urgh, next time ...open my eyes!!! Overall thrilled with my results, I floated on my back twice to regroup and refocus, other than that freestyle all the way baby. Thanks Kevin....you rock!
What would you do differently?:

Keep my eyes open. Swim faster.
Transition 1
  • 06m 27s
Comments:

Not talk to the woman at the rack next to me, who very apparently was in no hurry and taking an opinion poll on whether to wear regular glasses or sunglasses on the bike. Ditch the biking gloves, made me go too slow and also had to pull over to secure them....stoopid!
What would you do differently?:

No bike gloves.
Bike
  • 1h 48m 37s
  • 17.6 miles
  • 9.72 mile/hr
Comments:

Some of the roads were a little wet in some spots. I was very conservative and held back on the downhills and rode my brakes a lot. I also just got my pedals a couple of weeks ago, so I was more tenative than I should have been, could have shaved at least 10 or 15 minutes off of my time. One woman wiped out at the school parking lot right behind me, slid right across the driveway....yikes....so I continued on my coservative pace all the way back.
What would you do differently?:

I would not have changed my conservative ride on this particular race because of the lack of comfort in my bike handling skills. I did also go more conservatively as well in order to be sure I had enough left for the run, apparently that didn't make any difference, should have left more on the road, it wouldn't have mattered on the run.
Transition 2
  • 04m 12s
Comments:

Went well, took off my tri top and put on running shirt. Wasted a little time, but I'm OK with that.
Run
  • 56h 22m
  • 3.4 miles
  • 16h 34m 43s  min/mile
Comments:

Dissappointed by how long it took me to run it. I did lap times, should have not done that and just checked on average time for the entire run. I finished feeling good and I could have pushed myself more on the run.
Post race
What limited your ability to perform faster:

Tenantive on the bike because of limited bike handling skills

Event comments:

I was happy about my overall performance as a first timer. I felt good after the race, which meant I should have pushed myself a little more on the bike and definetly on the run, but my goal was to finish in 3:30 and I was 1:30 ahead of that and I conquered my biggest fear....SWIMMING!!!

Aren't you glad you didn't grab the bike and sneak off?

Terrific job yesterday - I was the same on the bike, I rode the brakes a lot on the downhills, too.  Awesome job on the swim!!!

Great job on the race.  I wondered how the rain was going to affect the conditions on the bike.  Good job taking it conservative and not wiping out.

Don't feel bad about the swim.   You weren't the only one who kept drifting to the right and swimming into the lilypads.  I had to yell to at least half-a-dozen people who did the same thing.

Congrats on beating your goal time.  That's always a great feeling.
