Not sure the fleece chamois is going to allow my butt to last 90km. What does a typical 70.3 short chamois need to be? Is my 2XU short likely to be more of a sprint distance short? What do you all have for chamois for this distance? Thanks all! |

Master 8247 Eugene, Oregon | Subject: RE: Chamois for 70.3? I have worn a 2XU one piece compression suit for two of the three HIM I've done, with no issues at all. In fact find it more comfortable than normal bike shorts, particularly when riding my tri bike as I'm in aero most of the time. (For my first HIM I was riding a road bike without aerobars; think I wore Zoot tri-shorts.) I'm not naturally "well-padded" but have never felt uncomfortable with the fairly thin padding in the 2XU suit or the Zoot shorts. For me comfort is more a matter of compatibility with my saddle and body (where the pad is related to those) than how thick the chamois is. I've even ended up wearing a tri-suit under a jersey for most of a two-week bike tour of Sri Lanka, including a 138 km ride, due to really rainy, humid weather which made it almost impossible to get normal bike shorts dry. A lot probably depends on your saddle, bike position, and anatomy. It definitely pays to do some long rides in the tri suit or shorts prior to the event to get your butt used to it, and experiment with a few different brands/models if you can afford it. There are some brands (De Soto?) that make a "long distance" tri short with a thicker pad that can still be workable for swim and bike and might be more comfortable for some people. |

Veteran 740 The Woodlands, TX | Subject: RE: Chamois for 70.3? Nobody can answer this for you. What kind of shorts you find comfortable depends on your bike position, your saddle, your "bits and pieces", and your lubrication (or lack of) choice. It's a very personal, very individualistic type of solution. I like a traditional bike bib-short on my road bike with a full pad, but almost no pad at all on my tri bike. I don't use any type of lube (except sweat) on either bike. From my perspective, distance doesn't come into play....they're either comfortable or they're not. |

Expert 727 South Windsor CT | Subject: RE: Chamois for 70.3? I had the same issue. I bought some 2xu long distance trishorts and also purchased a neoprene seat cover from desoto sports. This combo worked great for me in training for my first 70.3 and my first Ironman. I could ride all day with that combo. |
