Subject: The week before an olympic, should I....
I have an olympic distance race on September 20th. A week before, on the 13th, there's another race I'm considering doing more as a training day; however, I'm undecided which event/distance I should do. The 20th is a bigger race for me that I want to do well in so I've ruled out doing an olympic the weekend before.

The other distances I'm considering for the 13th are:
A) Sprint distance (500 swim, 13 mi bike, 5k)
B) Aquabike (1000 swim, 22 bike)
C) Dualathon (5k, 13 bike, 5k)

Which race do you suggest doing?

I don't consider a race as training, so I would suggest not racing if you want to do your best in the Oly.
And do your final prep training instead.

Otherwise as the others said "B"

If you want to push it during the Olympic, I wouldn't do another race a week before. Two weeks, yes.
Is there a reason that you want to do a race that close?

First of all I would like to wish you good luck.I Myself am participating in New York Triathlon Expo and I started preparing for it.I would advice you that not to do rigorous training just before the event. You would not want unwanted injuries. In my view you should Go for Aqua-bike as it will not cause any problem for you and you'd have a good practice session.

I mostly agree with the sentiment of the others regarding doing the aquabike, assuming you're not very experienced, and haven't been training more than a year continuously.

If you're more experienced, and have been training year-round for 2 or more years at an average weekly volume =>6-8 hours per week, then option 'A' the sprint, is fine too.  It won't negatively impact the oly a week later.

I looked at the swim buoys and start thinking, "Man! How am I ever going to swim that? That looks like a very long distance from the bridge. I have never done it in one go." There's no turning back.

This training plan has only 2 workouts per sport per week and peaks at 7.5 hours per week of training. Use this plan if you are time constrained or if you want to focus more on your family.

After doing duathlons for the last couple of years, I decided to go for a triathlon. Starting with an Olympic-distance race perhaps wasn't wise, but it was fun (of a sort).

The schedule consists of at least 3 workouts per week in each sport, 2 days of strength training and core work too. Most weeks have 4 days of cycling. The maximum volume is around 11 hours.
