Good morning BT!

Switching my off day to Monday...now that softball season is over I have free reign over my weekends again so my usual Saturday off day will now be a training day!

5:00am:  Active off--40 minute treadmill walk followed by 15 minutes of core and then some stretching

Yesterday afternoon had a nice and hot 6 mile trail run.

Oh my gosh Karen...that is horrible timing!  I agree though--not going to World's should not be an option!

Have a great day, all!

Working on it....my boss has said I can have leave but I don't know how many days or if heroics like flying back from Australia the night of the race will be required or not. I really, really hope not. As of next year, we have NO guaranteed or paid personal leave days--anything besides sick days is unpaid and must be approved (or not) on a case by case basis. The Friday before the race happens to be a national holiday, so that makes things a bit better-- ideally I could get Thursday off to head down there, probably arriving very late Thursday or maybe Friday morning (a lot of flights are red-eyes via Singapore or KL), race Sunday, return Monday (which would probably get me in very late Monday or even sometime Tuesday morning) and take Tuesday off. Whether that will be granted.... I don't know. Just the idea of a redeye the night after a HIM makes me sick.

Anyway, I will probably do both races, assuming I can get healthy sometime. Felt better today but still having some asthma issues (I do whenever I have a cold) and my head starts to feel like a brick by about 7 PM. Have decided with my coach that I should go for a fast time at Calgary (since I have plenty of time to train and rest up over the summer, and conditions should be moderate), and just do Worlds for the trip/the experience, mainly due to the horrid timing.

As for "training", not much. 1800m of swimming. Had planned to do another 1000, but got kicked out when it started storming. Rainy season is slowly getting started again. It seems like only last week I got stormed out of another workout and was trying to explain to my coach about this delightful aspect of training here works. I swear....the entire last six months have kind of passed in a blur of schoolwork and training. Where does time go?

Sorry you aren't feeling better HR! Hope it passes quick!

5:30am - Had kind of a miserable run this morning. Legs were tired, other hip was hurting. Walked a lot but made it 5 miles.

9:30am - 45 min spin, then 30 min of ST after. That felt much better and I'm beginning to like box jumps :-)!

Had an hour on the bike. We are having storms so I did it at the gym. I sure do like riding outside a lot better.

Have a good week everyone

20 mile ride this afternoon. Weather was nice, but breezy on the coast. Felt good to get back to work after a 3 day weekend of camping.

I went into the pool area (as this was a pool swim) and got body marked. That's when it hit me that I was there to race - this was not a clinic.

I have been able to swim 200-300 yards without stopping for the past couple of weeks, but this morning I couldn’t swim more than 50. Could not eating make a big differance?

This is not an easy task, especially for the “9-to-5er” with family. But you can do it – all without sacrificing your marriage, job or family.

Once you caught your breath, it occurred to you that finishing even a short triathlon might be harder than you thought. After a few "laps" you thought, "I can't believe I'm so out of shape."
