Calling all Canadians....or people who race up there. I'm signed up for Calgary 70.3 in late July. Thought about begging out of it after I qualified for Worlds but it was planned as part of a family race-cation and that would be difficult... Worlds is also at a horrible time of year for me (work-wise) so I'm still planning to race Calgary and just do what I can in Australia in September. Has anyone done the Calgary race? Anything I need to know about racing in Canada as opposed to the US? Advice or experiences appreciated!

Be prepared for any weather. Be prepared for said weather to change midrace. It might be really really windy. Wetsuit swim.

Rolling hills on the bike and a monster hill on the run. Seperate T1 and T2 locations. 10 to 15 k apart.

We have a kids race 5 minutes away from T2/ run venue that day.

I noticed that about T1 and T2. At least it sounds like T2 and the finish are pretty close. A bit concerned about that as Mom is spectating and she doesn't have a great sense of direction. Hoping I can get her a bus ticket so she can bus to the start and then back to T2; otherwise I guess just leave her parked at T2/finish area. Do you set up T2 the day before or the morning of, or do they just (hopefully) put your run bag in your assigned space? Race info is a bet confusing--almost sounds like the latter. I think the last point-to-point race I did, one set up T2 in the morning and then took a shuttle from there to swim start/T1.

Can't be as bad as my first attempt at HIM bike (cut short due to snow)--T1 was 50 km from T2, which in turn was a good 5 or 6 km from the finish. Talk about confusing! Plus at altitude--everything from 40 and raining to hail to 70 and sunny--during a 4-hour race.

How big is the "monster hill"?

The year I raced it was a different swim location about 60km from T2. We dropped bikes at t1 the day before. Met at 0 dark 30 at T2 to drop our run gear and bus to T1/swim venue. The new swim venue is in town so hopefully there is a bus. If not I may be able to see if someone can give her a lift. The only way I am showing up to T1 is if a relay needs a swimmer and they comp my entry. My son races around 10am that day so I have to be there

Not saying it can't snow but its unlikely. 32C tomorrow, currently 27 at 9.35PM. We are medium altitude here 3500-5000‘ depending on where you are...in town is 3500-4000, Canmore and Banff are higher. Lots of good riding, decent pools etc.

Sounds good if it doesn't snow. For some reason I do better at slight altitudes like 3K to 5K than at sea level---maybe cleaner air. (Assuming forest fires are over!) I can probably manage Mom somehow!

Is a tri bike okay for the course, or would a road bike be better? I was planning to bring my P2 back for the summer, but if a road bike would be the better tool for the job, might consider just leaving it here and saving a few hundred $.
