My bike's rear skewer won't fit in the slot in my indoor trainer. The trainer came with what looks like an acceptable quick release skewer which fits the trainer. My question is can I take out the skewer that's currently on my bike now and replace it with the skewer that came with the trainer and leave it on all the time? This would make throwing it on the trainer that much easier or are rear skewers so important that I wouldn't want to put any old skewer on the bike?

yep, the one that came with the trainer is just a closed cam skewer.  Just tighten it down the same as you would an open cam (what you have on there now) and it will work just fine.  Some will even argue that the closed cam skewer offers stronger closure and better grime resistance.

I just keep the trainer skewer on all the time. Actually, I don't even know where the other one went. I train and race with it too. Probably a tad bit heavier but it's not going to matter for most of us.

Thanks for the reply. Supposed to be a bit rainy here today so I'll probably throw on the new skewer and forget the other one.
