ok I know this sounds weird but this is my 9th year of doing tri's and I have never done a Olympic race I only have done Sprints and HIM's

Sprints - I go all out and make it hurt as much as possible while In HIM's I pace it and get to the finish.

So how do you pace for a Olympic. Also do you need any nutrition?

going to be fun to try a new length race.

Olys are awesome, my favorite distance.

Pacing-wise, you'll be shooting for "zone 3" on the swim and bike, and then probably :20-30/mile slower than your open 10K time for the run.

For nutrition, I just had some sports drink (watered down Gatorade) on the bike for 2:30:00 total time.

I really love sprints but I find HIMS more of a mental challenge. another funny thing is I have never run a 10K either I have run 5k's half marathons and marathons. I did once do the bike portion of a relay in a olympic. It was very fun as I was going full tilt next to guys doing a little more pacing. A couple tried to hang on but could not do it

I usually take a tape a few gels on my bike and take a few on the run for Oly. It's not a HIM, but you'll be out there long enough to need some nutrition IMO.

You can probably get away with less, also the course will most likely have nutrition available.

As for pacing, you are out there about an hour (+) on the bike, so I try to build the pace quickly and push fairly hard.

For the run, I take the first few miles conservatively and then push it for the remaining.

Depends a lot on the course and weather.

I looked at the swim buoys and start thinking, "Man! How am I ever going to swim that? That looks like a very long distance from the bridge. I have never done it in one go." There's no turning back.

I have always been an athlete, growing up playing team sports like basketball and soccer. I also ran in a couple of 10K races every year, so I had no reason to worry about running a 5K...right?

I couldn't believe that my splits kept getting lower! I started to run harder after I passed the "5 km" sign and picked a few people that I wanted to pass.
