I recently flatted on a new disc. On-course repair and it got me through the rest of the race. At home today, it looked like the pressure had leaked out more than I would expect. I decided to pump it up and see if it went down.

15 minutes later, I heard the pressure go out from the other room.

I took the tube out to see where it failed.....and found the rim tape failure at one of the spoke holes.

So, do I just put new rim tape (are some better than others?) in.......veloplugs.......or, is there any harm in both. I would think weight isn't so much of an issue for a disc wheel.....but, I don't know that much

If you're going to use velo plugs, I hear a little bit of clear packing tape over them works well.

I've always used cloth velox rim tape but always wanted to try velo plugs.

You know what my FLO's have!  I only have the yellow plugs without any rim tape.  So far so good with it over 2 years.  I've read others on ST saying they've had issues with latex and plugs but I haven't had any.

On my older set of wheels I had a tiny pinhole develop in cloth velox rim tape during a race that the latex poked thru and eventually popped after racking in T2.  Came back into transition after the race to find my front tire was flat.  I could barely tell the hole was there.  I was lucky it was a Sprint race and not a longer one.
