New user 20 | Subject: Fun in the off season: Masters Swimming Nationals Well, I am about 90% sure I am going to try to qualify for Masters Nationals in May (short course yards). The meet is just up the road here in the NW, tri season is over (for me), and I just need something to focus on. I also want to see just how good I can get at swimming. My coach has agreed to help me get there, but that means 5 days a week in the pool (up from my usual 2-3), and dryland training. That being said, the reasons I am not 100% are: * Swim practice is at night--that means 4 nights a week at the pool, and one weekend morning * Ski season is approaching, which means at least one day a weekend on the mountain, I hope--will I have to give that up? * I'm already scheduled to be traveling for work 5 weeks between now and February * My friends may disown me--they thought the end of tri season meant I'd have more free time. Ha! * My BF (NOT live-in) says he will be supportive and accommodating of my new schedule, but I'm not so sure he'll feel the same way 6 months from now ... Then again, he's also in training for a half-marathon. Am I crazy? Is anyone else aiming for Nationals? If it helps, I currently swim a 29-sec 50 free and 1:02 100 free; I need to get down to 28 secs and 1:01. Thanks, Meg |

Master 2099 Madison, WI | Subject: RE: Fun in the off season: Masters Swimming Nationals You are one second away from qualifying for Nationals now, and you're questioning whether you should go for it? Pshhhh. Go for it. That way I can live vicariously through you and say, "I knew her when." (Okay, I can say, "Yah, I saw her on this website thingy I frequent back before she made nationals." or something like that.) |

Giver 18427 | Subject: RE: Fun in the off season: Masters Swimming Nationals Awesome! I've swum a few Masters Nationals, and they are fun meets. But long...really long. Good luck qualifying, but even if you don't, you can swim up to three events without making the cutoff times. Oh...and make sure you swim one of the distance freestyles (1000 or 1650). Self-resepecting triathletes don't just swim the 50, plus (epecially in the women's age groups) there are never a lot of entrants and they give medals through 10th place. These are the results for the 1000 and 1650 in your age group from this year's Nationals: Women 25-29 1000 Yard Freestyle Edited by run4yrlif 2006-09-11 7:25 AM |
