The part I don't understand is why is she standing in the bull's way? A bull market is when prices are rising and people are encouraged to buy. Isn't that a good thing? Shouldn't she be riding it, pushing it or something similar?

Interesting responses.

I was serious, FWIW......I love strong, opinionated, fearless women.............. I LOVE THEM!!!

I'm good with any statue or monument that promotes that ideal.

I have no idea what symbolism you may or may not get from that statue.......but a little girl facing down a bull is good with me.  It's something I can point to when I tell my daughters to fear nothing.  That's a good thing.

As I have said....I have twin 16 year old daughters.  They are 6'3 in 3 inch heels (they would refer to most of you as "a shrimp" )....and intimidating to any boy their own age....opinionated and strong willed.

Neither has ever had a boyfriend.......but they will.  The good thing is that they don't need a boyfriend to feel complete......they're more then good on their own.

"Fearless girl"

Again.....Hell Yeah!!!!!!

how about because the bull market isn't treating her gender fairly, and shes being a badass and standing up to this giant machine.

Man, I've got a picture of them with a 12 foot alligator they killed (not really fit for this board though)......they watched "Swamp People" for about 6 months and begged me to take them gator hunting.  I set up a trip down in Florida for them and they each caught and killed a gator on a nuisance tag from the state.  Crazy trip.  Like I said, boys fear those two girls. LMAO

Yeah, that's all well and fine, but I wouldn't get too close and sentimental with them......because I will kill, butcher, and eat them as I toast your friendship over a nice bottle of red wine. LOL

Reminds me of a story.....

Guy sees a pig with a wooden leg. Curious, he stops to talk to the farmer and ask why his pig has a wooden leg. Farmer says, "This is a very valuable pig. You see those oil derricks? Everywhere that pig roots, oil comes up. That pig has made me rich!"

Guy said that is very impressive but asks again why the pig has a wooden leg? Farmer says, "Not only has the pig made me rich but he saved our lives. A few years back the house caught on fire and the pig dragged out both of our kids and woke my wife and I up. That pig saved all our lives!"

Guy says, "OK, wow that is awesome! I get that the pig is valuable and saved your lives, but WHY DOES YOUR PIG HAVE A WOODEN LEG?"

Farmer says, "Well....a pig this valuable, you don't eat all at once!"

Maybe this is why we need that statue and have a feminist movement?

I don't like it ! I like the statue and like the message. Don't care for where they put it. I'd have rather seen it next to the bull rather then opposing it. Bull markets don't care about what gender you are so why try to stop it. I'd rather she want to run with the bulls.

Yeah, PETA was up-in-arms a couple weeks ago because his buddy did the same thing to the bull statute.

I think there are a few issues with the execution of the project (the fact that State Street only has few females on it's board, the fact that you can think to hard about the symbolism of the bull market, etc).

BUT, if you don't think too hard, it's a really great piece of art.

I say this as an artist - my main intent in the studio is to create a piece of work that creates a gut emotional reaction in someone, and it's harder than you think. This piece does that. On it's own, it's got a huge presence. The sight of that girl standing her ground creates an emotional reaction in the audience, and that's what it's intended to do. The fact that it's on Wall Street gives it a bit more oomph. The fact that she's staring down the bull, a bit more. The rest of it we can debate all day, but her presence is pretty amazing.

I find it interesting that I had to google for a while to find the name of the sculptor who created it - Kristen Visbal. Props to her for making a fantastic piece of art. Say what you will, but her presence alone will have a lot of impact on people. That's what art is all about.

So yeah  - hell yeah!

Yep, that guy's a douche bag.  But just like the statue is something I can point to for my girls, so is that idiot. I'm not offended, and I don't raise my kids to be offended by stupid crap..... I'm just happy there are idiots willing to show their arse for the world to see........those are "good" examples too.
