I'm wondering if anyone else has experienced this phenomenon. My last two runs, the bottom of my left foot has gone numb after about mile 2. I'm working on lace tension to see what affect that has. Has anyone else experienced a similar problem and what did you do to solve it? If it happens again, I'm contemplating having a foot specialist check out my foot to make sure there are no circulatory or nerve problems.

Background...Same shoes and socks I've been training in with no problems before now. I was professionally fit for these shoes and had the choice confirmed by a foot specialist after a gait analysis. They’re not brand new, but don’t have enough miles yet to warrant replacement.

I had this recently - it came on after mile two and went at the end of mile four.  It wasn't causing any discomfort so I didn't worry too much.  It was accompanied by pins and needles a couple of times.

It just seemed to stop after a few weeks - I didn't / haven't changed anything - same shoes, socks and route.

I wondered if it was my feet getting used to being (comparatively) pounded - I didn't use to do long (for me) running of any kind.

never had any foot numbness issue before last week. But unlike you, I had a change in equipment, new Yankz. Two miles into a five mile run, both feet started going, by the end of the run I could hardly feel either foot and it was going up my legs. I did the whole run, pretty much on pace, but after finishing could not wait to get my shoes off. I took the Yankz out and put my old laces back in. My first race is Saturday, I can't chance it. I'd much rather lose the 30 seconds until I get the adjustment on the speed laces figured out.

I hope that you get a solution to your numbing.

I had that happen while trying out new shoes that had a support bar in them. If your shoes are starting to wear and they have any supportive thingies inside, you might be hitting the point where the cushioning isn't protecting your foot from the supportive thingy.

Isn't that a scientific response?

Works for me! Sounds a lot like I'd describe it.

Might be the start of a neuroma (inflammation of nerve b/n the toes). Unfortunately, the numbness may turn painful so if it continues then you'll want to see a podiatrist.

I've been battling a neuroma for a couple of months and I just picked up my new orthodics today. I have my first oly coming up in three weeks (Pinehurst) and I'm hoping to be painfree by then. Biking & running for 2.5+ hours w/ your foot on fire is no fun!

I've loosened the laces on my shoes again and if it happens on my next run, I'm going to pay a visit to the podiatrist.

I'm also racing Pinehurst as my first Oly. Good luck with your race love2tri and I hope you're pain free by then!

I used to have the pins and needles in my foot but it just stopped. Funny I did not ever remember it untill seeing your post at the time i was running about 1 mile and walking then running to get my distence in all i can say is now i run and dont need to stop and have no more pins and needles it may be a conditioning thing.

I've had the numbness before on my right  foot.   Usually started out small, but would continure to radiate down the arch and into my heel area.    Always appeared around 3 miles.

I would try to focus on wiggling my toes, shake my foot and try extra flexing of the ankle to  make it stop.     During training runs, the thing that seemed to work was to stop running and walk for about 100 yards, working on the wiggling and flexing.

Never confirmed if it was a pinched nerve, loss of blood to area or what?  When I bought shoes from my LRS, the RUNNER/salesman said to loosen up the laces big time and knot them, plus they were a wider size pair.  That also helped.
