Subject: Where to put the GU?
I was recently turned on to GU thanks to its inclusion in my swag bag from from the first relay I did. The question is where to put it, I slipped a corner of it between the cage and water bottle on the first race and on my second tri I used postal tape and stuck it to my toolbag behind my seat. Both solution are just ok, the postal tape to toolbag worked best. I may just break down and buy a sugoi tri singlet that has pockets in the back for that kind of stuff---by the way I found the tangerine gu to be gross the chocolate very good and it really gave me a second wind on the back half of the bike legs I was racing. What are your tricks for carrying stuff like this?

-thanks

For longer races I use a Gel Flask and a bike mount. On shorter races I just leave one in the transition area and take it after the swim or the bike. That takes a little longer, but then again I'm not going to be on the podium (sorry Triclyde)

Gel flask? Is that one of those bottles that fit between the aero bars?

I go with the tried and true method - duct tape!

No the gel flask is a plastic bottle. It hold 5 oz of Gu. There is a strap and velcro (I think) that attatches to your frame or stem. The bottle slips into the mount, so all you have to do is put the flask in your mouth and sqeeze. The flask holds 5 Gu packs

Here is a link. Mine looks similar.

Electrical Tape to the top bar. Make a small tear before the race so that you can then rip the gel open during the bike.

The gel flask is the way to go. No empty packs stickying up your back (as everyone puts the empties in their pockets....RIGHT?????)

I've also seen people threading them into their water bottle caps so they can just pull & open at the same time.

Ooh, I like the GU in the water bottle cap idea. But I have a question: why are triathletes so partial to GU? I'm a powerbar addict myself. I never found GU to actually give me energy...so why does everyone else in the world exclusively use it instead of bars?

I just tuck the gel packet into the right leg of my trisuit. No special equipment necessary. However, I wouldn't recommend tucking more than one pack. Good luck

Love the GU, especially the chocolate and vanilla.  Chocolate has caffeine so that one is VERY useful.  Good idea to duck tape it to the bars--wish I had stock in the stuff (both duck tape and GU)
