My first tri was last Sunday (My Own Triathlon - just me!). I took it safe and did the swim in a pool. My goal now is to do a tri with an open water swim next summer.

Whenever I have been in open water, I have NEVER put my head in the water - are you kidding me?- why would I want to do that! Well, today I did my first open water swim in Lake Pend Oreille, Sandpoint, Idaho. It was a blast! Okay, it only took me 15 minutes to get in the water! but once I got in and put my well practiced swim strokes in motion, it was really fun. I alternated between side stroke and free style and swam 1/4 mile total with lots of hanging onto the logs boardering the swim area. I plan to get lots better by next summer.

What hints do you have for me - things I need to know about swimming in a tri in open water?? thanks!
