I wake up in a cold sweat around 1-2 a.m. every night. My training is pretty consistent, so I don't feel overtrained. I've already tried turning down the temperature in the room, but no matter how freezing it is, I wake up soaked in sweat. What in the world could be going on?

That was happening to my husband, and he got sent in for a sleep study. Doctor said it can be a sign of sleep apnea or something. Turns out my husband has narcolepsy, and when he's properly medicated he doesn't sweat as badly.

Happen to me when I take time off and treat myself with too much junk food and treats.. Which has been the last couple weeks. I had to start wearing PJ's to bed do I don’t' have to change the sheets and I need almost a liter of water by the bed to drink.. Cant wait to get back on the healthy side on Monday..

Cheers.

I went to the doc, and it turns out that night sweats are a symptom for quite a few conditions...hopefully my outcome will be good!

So far...

-Not TB
-Not early menopause

Apparently some of the other blood test results were abnormal, but not too far away from the normal range. Round 2 of blood tests was yesterday, so I'm hoping to hear back next week. If this doesn't reveal anything significant, the doc mentioned another few tests that will be next on the agenda.

Well, I'm glad I went to the doc instead of just brushing it off! A couple more labs came back outside the normal range and I got a referral to an endocrinologist and an appoinment for an abdominal CT. I did some reading on what the doc thinks it is, and it does seem like some of the stuff I attributed to training hard could be unrelated to training altogether. I guess if I was a couch potato I would've noticed it sooner... (unless that stuff really IS related to training and I'm just rationalizing it!)

So what are you reading up on...pheochromocytoma? Those are extremely, extremely rare! Let us know what's up.

An insulinoma was one of the possibilities based on some abnormal blood test results, but I got my CT results back yesterday and that opened up about 5 more things that the doc wants to look into, and it still didn't rule out an insulinoma. The analytical side of me says that I shouldn't worry about anything until I have a more definitive confirmation of what's wrong, but this is starting to seem more serious than I had originally thought.

One of the things that irks me the most is that I don't feel great after any workouts anymore. I just feel tired and bloated all the time. I still exercise, but it's more out of obligation than the desire to feel good. It's probably the lack of sleep because I'm still waking up at night and having to change clothes.

Be sure you read up in incidentalomas as well...that may help you sleep better at night...

The insulinoma wouldn't be incidental if that's what the CT was ordered to look for, though, would it? The problems they found on the scan weren't tumors anyway...they were all related to kidney function and fluid buildup. Again, I'm not going to worry too much until I get a definitive diagnosis. I just know that there's something wrong with me that's making me wake up soaked every night, which in turn is making me too exhausted to do the things that make me happy. Plus, it's a hell of a lot harder to stay hydrated when everything ends up sweating out overnight! My parents even threatened to buy a plastic mattress sheet for when I visit them next week. I haven't had one of those since I was 2!
