Subject: Triathlon Transition Bag
Can anyone recommend a triathlon transition bag. Also, what are the main qualities I should look for in a quality bag.

I have the TYR Transition pack. It's awesome! It holds everything I bring to a race, and it's less expensive than a lot of other bags. It's on sale at Trisports right now: http://www.trisports.com/tyrtrbapa.html

I spent most of last season using a typical gym bag that was always overflowing and a nuisance.  When I bought my wetsuit, All3 threw in an Akona bag: http://www.all3sports.com/product_info.php?pName=akona-biospeed-transition-pack

I used it for 2 races and it worked wonders.  In fact, I used to to pack all my gear for Thanksgiving.  It has plenty of room and a number of compartments.  For me, what I love about it is that I can leave it hanging next to my bike and I know where all my gear is.

Is it the best bag on the market?  Probably not...I am sure you can go with bigger names such as TYR and Louis Garneau for $30-50 more.  To me, it is all about how you treat the bag that determines how long it will last you.  I am very pleased with what I have and it does the job.

I can't remember where I got this idea (probably from BT somewhere)  but I use a rubbermaid storage bin.  One Just deep enough to hold my helmet.   It is just about the perfect size and it is nice a waterproof so your stuff stays dry.   Cheap and it works great for me.

I agree, great bag.

My only complaint is that the waterproof bag lasted less than a week before the seams started to split

Do you use the waterproof bag on a regular basis and has this happened to you?

Same thing happened to me. It should be fixable by a tailor or maybe a shoe repair guy with a strong sewing machine. I like my TYR bag. Other than the stitching issue, it's great, HUGE and cheaper than the other ones on the market. I have to say though the one I really wanted was the Rocket Science Sports try bag but it was more than I wanted to spend on a bag.

I have a different Zoot bag - http://www.trisports.com/zosptribag20.html - love it, but not the price!  I got mine on closeout for much much less...  but  it IS a great bag.

I use a North Face "Recon" daypack. I bought it on sale and know the owner of the store I bought it from. He said if it doesn't work bring it back. It works pretty dang well.

It doesn't have a waterproof compartment but I can fit everything I need in it. Wetsuit, shoes, goggles, transition towel, HR monitor & strap, swim cap, helmet, race belt, race chip, visor, a few gels/bars, 2 tubes, and 2 CO2 cartriges. It's pretty tight but everything fits and it doesn't temp me to overload it with junk. I guess that kind of follows packing a backpacking pack, just what you need, nothing more nothing less. No need to bring a rock collection to a race. Cyling shoes go in the bottle holders on the outside of the pack. Drinks go on the bike.

I never understood the wetsuit compartment idea for a race bag. After a race everything is either wet or sweaty or dirty anyway. I've used my wetsuit the day before a race and never had a problem with anything getting wet from it in the bag.
