Subject: do you put up a Christmas tree...
I have to admit, I do not!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am single, and really at 44yo, I see no use anymore. It's more of a bother to put up a tree, hang the lights, etc... just to take it all down again. Is this horrible, LOL!!

However, deep inside I am glad. For many years I felt that I should do the "Christmas" thing, but now... I just visit houses with trees and lights and hand out presents... and it's all the same. I really don't miss my own house being decorated. Not sure what that means, but that's the way it is.

What's the deal with your house and decorations, do tell

I too am a single lady and the tree is just too much work. Christmas is every where else this time of year so i don't necessarily feel the need to decorate my home. Plus i rent, so i don't have a place to hang lights.

yep on both counts, tree and lights.

Our mountain bike club does an AWESOME Christmas lights ride throughout one or two of the more lavishly decorated suburbs.  One year I went, we were moving faster than the folks in cars.  It comes complete with eggnog and cocoa before the ride.   A few even decorate their bikes (and themselves) with festive lights it's a lot of fun.

I see you are from Florida. As a kid, we always wondered what Christmas is like without snow. In Florida, do you wonder the opposite... what it's like to have Christmas with snow??

oh yeah.  We planned a vacation over the holidays but can't.  Tried spring break 07 but it's not till freakin' April.  I've seen packed snow a few times, the last time I was about 9 and it was a foot in Biloxi, Mississippi.   I've seen it on mountaintops, but never had a real snow experience.  It is definitely in our plans......   anyone got a cabin to rent?

Well come January... believe me, I will have plenty snow reports for you to read!!!, LOL!! I think it's so strange, that states so close to us have such different climates you know... we are really not that far apart.

We will start getting snow early December. The heaviest will start mid December through mid February. Then when March rolls around... it may still be cold, but Chicagoeans know Spring is right around the corner. Once February is over, we think we're in the clear, LOL!!

I'll save you a snowball... or I'll make a snowman and take a pic for ya ... as long as you keep sending me some Florida sun through the winter

I would do  a tree if we were going to be around.    maybe.   but Derreck likes to do the lights outside - we even won a prize one year....

I have done a pointsetta tower as a single person....   and lights.   I had a biannual holiday party so I would do it up every other year...

I try to plan my vacation time for this time of year so I can visit places that are cold.  New England states to see the leaves change, places like Canada and Colorado to enjoy the snow and go skiing, and NYC for the shopping and Christmas stuff.  I am single, and admit putting up a tree is a lot of work, but its so worth it for me.  My brother helps me to go and get it, so I share that adventure with his family.  Then I love to play Christmas music while decorating the tree.  I may invite a few close friends and make an evening of it.  I just love all this stuff!

I don't to a Christmas tree either.

It's not that I don't want to, it's just that it takes too much time. Plus, I've got to store all the stuff year after year and move with it (and not lose it) whenever I need to move. Like someone else said earlier in the thread, Christmas is everywhere this time of year, including hanging from my towns light posts, so why should I decorate my house when I'm just going to have to take it down eventually?

No pumpkins for Halloween. Didn't hand out candy, either.

I am not all that crazy about having a tree in the house.  But my wife insists that we put one up every year.  It's no use arguing with the boss!  AND, Darwin likes to play with the decorations and the presents ...

I'm married with kids and we haven't done a tree in three years!  That's because we go to my mom's in Massachusetts every year for at least 10 days and I hate the idea of coming home to a dead tree with needles all over the house.  I do decorate with everything else though.  My mom goes crazywith a buge tree so they get one there.

That said, this year we are doing a tree because for some reason I'm just in the mood!!

We didn't last year, because we spent Christmas in Colorado skiing at Keystone.

I put ours up this past Tuesday (it's artificial).  We still need to decorate it though.

It's just my hubby and I, but we still do the Christmas tree every year...although it is a lot of work for just the two of us.  And, we always spend the holidays back in Michigan with our families, so we often wonder if it's worth it.  But every year, when it's time for the Mag Mile Lights Festival (downtown Chicago) I get the bug!  This year the tree's been up for a week, but still no ornaments because I'm on crutches and my hubby has been too busy!  It's driving me nuts!

I've wanted to take a trip to Colorado my whole life.  Photos are in my album.  My wife learned to ski, and I took lessons to get better.  We'd be there again this year, but are visiting family across the country in Washington State.  I sure hope it snows ...

yup. we get a REAL tree (locally raised w/ no green coloring added) and decorate it. we have a ton of ornaments from our house warming, which was really a holiday/house warming, so everyone brought us an ornament. its really nice to decorate the tree and think of all the people who have been in our life. environmentally, its sort of a wash between real tree and fake tree. real trees usually aren't grown w/ pesticides, sustainable crops, usually locally grown, can be mulched/composted, etc...but the land could be used for other things. fake trees are reused, which is great, but they are made from petroleum, usually have a higher fuel cost for transport, and usually end up in a land fill at the end of their useful life. we try and split the difference by getting a real tree, but having reusable, fake wreath and fake garlands.
